Votey McVoterson

Nov 02, 2008 01:07

It certainly wasn't the first time I ever voted, but today (er...yesterday now) was my first time early voting.
I was worried I wouldn't get my usual "I voted sticker"...Seriously, I have a collection of a decade's worth. I actually bounced when I got this year's. I'm adding it to my increasingly bizarre and excessive collection of "scrapbook material" from the campaign, along with this year's voting "cheat sheet".
I'm sure I looked like a really impoverished kid who just got a sucker at the bank.
Yes, people like me DO decide the fate of the country. Scary, ain't it?

I actually stood in line about the same amount of time that I usually do for regular voting. One of the poll workers said that it had been "crazy" all week and that about 400 people had voted today. That may not sound like many but, considering that my county only has a population of about 30,000, it's a huge number.
Everything went well though and now I don't have to worry about any last minute catastrophes preventing me from voting (Yes, I'd been stressing it. I KNOW my luck).

My dear little niece was less than impressed tonight when I told her I voted. She said she had already voted on Nick (the Nickelodeon site) in a tone of voice that said loud and clear, "Okay, what took you so long, you lazy wench?"
Yes, Jade is an Obama baby...She yells whenever she sees him on TV. I've been telling her how proud I am of her every time she lets me know whe voted in one of the online kid's elections. I am proud...and hoping she'll be as much of a political firebrand as her crazy cat-lady auntie.

Tonight I indulged myself slightly and browsed the political folder on my computer in a fit of nostalgia.
I can't believe it's almost over.
You can read that in any tone of voice you choose and it will be correct--Relief, bewilderment, sadness, nervousness....
...It's just weird to think of life without the campaign at this point.

I wish I'd been in a position to do more, volunteer-wise in the general...so I'm sad about that...and that I'll just generally miss the "Obama Commradery".
I'm nervous about what will happen Tuesday of course...Gawd, I hope people are all getting together at the office--I'm broke as shit so I can't afford beer and I really need people so sit around biting my nails with.
I'm glad I'll be able to check the mail again without seeing offensive Republican sickness....and answer the phone without hearing a robo-call (unaffiliated voter in NC--I'm up to about five a day). I hate robo-calls...not even being able to scream at the asshole spewing political shit at me before 8 a.m. is just not cool. No more reading about campaign/racially motivated vandalism etc....Not having to be winked at by Palin....*sigh* In that light, I can't wait.
But I don't know what I'll do without my daily doses of electionness of the more positive variety....At least I'll hopefully be trying to figure out the cheapest way to make it to the inauguration so I can hold on to the feeling a little longer.
It's just all kinds of weird....I've been at this since the beginning of February.

I've been to broke to go on a volunteer frenzy this last week--It's Rob's first full pay period back at work and we're trying to deal with work expenses on the workman's comp pittance--Until Friday, we have one very overdrawn bank account and one with about $20 in it. I did save enough gas money out to volunteer tomorrow and Tuesday though.
Fuck food...I've waited all year for this!
So yeah...I'm oddly maudlin. Time to finish my warm beverage and get a couple hours sleep.

Oh, thus far, we're ALL wrong on the fate of my sign.
It's still there and has gotten quite a bit of attention.
Rob was at the office the other day and a guy said he was driving through Currituck and saw a sign on a tree, "You wouldn't believe what these nutty people did..."
Yep, we're the nuts in question.
He took pics and was sending them to the local newspaper. Evidently several other people have stopped to photograph my masterpiece too.
But yeah, the unexpected part...
Some guy stopped and asked my cousin if we were really interested in getting rid of the tree. Of course, we agreed...though the portion the sign is attached to can't be claimed until after Tuesday.
My yard is looking much better now...He's coming back for the rest soon. *L*

Oh yeah, I hope I haven't missed anything too important in everyone's lives. I realized today I haven't done more than skim LJ in over a week. I probably won't get a chance to even glance at it until after the 4th.
So yeah...Send me a link in the comments if there's something I must see.
No anal prolapses please.

On that note, it is definitely time I slept.
