This is what my front yard looked like an hour ago...
This is the oak tree that was vertical a couple hours ago.
This is the crepe myrtle a portion of the oak was thrown through. Notice the proximity to my house...
This is Jamie's tractor. It's undamaged. It WAS in his garage. It didn't move.
There's the garage...
I'm sure this will be disjointed as hell....I'm still just...disbelieving.
So yeah, that's what we pulled up and saw. We missed it by about 15 minutes. If we had driven past Currituck airport five minutes earlier, we probably would have run into it while driving.
When we pulled up, we couldn't tell the house was okay because the tree obstructed my view.
We saw that Jamie was outside and went to talk to him. Rob ran all the way down to Billy's (about 5 houses down) making sure people were okay.
No injuries and, shockingly, not a single home on our street was damaged...a bit of loose siding on ours (scary since it shows how close it came, but that's it.
We stood outside staring and talking with all the neighbors...Rob and I provided beer where necessary.
Tomorrow we all get together again to begin cleanup.
Another neighbor, Norman said he saw the oak come down. He said it twisted it apart and then threw it under the power lines through the crepe myrtle.
We still had power when we got here.
Everyone said we "must be living right."...Well, except cousin James who said it was all my fault because I wasn't here to "keep things straight".
I'm shocked and totally freaked out...and incredibly thankful.
I just hope other areas in the county were as lucky as we were. No news coverage yet. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.
There were a few pictures on the WAVY 10 site.
I can't believe this came within 5 feet of my house.
