Rob and I have the plague. See image below for a view of our couch.
I have no idea where the nifty wizard guy in the background came from. Whatever he's shooting out of his fingertips isn't working...unless it's germs, then it's working a lot.
The point is, I'm behind on things. I'll catch up when I feel better. Unless buboes happen...If I see the buboes we're just screwed.
Actually, it's more likely that we have the flu--I'm almost certain of it. It fits the symptoms of other people we know who have it. I'm feverish with a plethora of respiratory complaints, muscle aches and general wooziness. Knock on wood, I haven't had any of the stomach stuff yet.
Rob hasn't been so lucky. It's weird--last Thursday he started having the whole respiratory thing. I encouraged him to stay home from work Friday and Saturday in case he was contagious--but I didn't press too hard since the weather here has been wonky and we're both prone to sinus problems/head colds. Saturday afternoon he seemed better, Sunday back to his old self. But Sunday night he was back to being sick--worse than before. I've started referring to the bathroom as the vomitorium.
Of course, since it didn't seem like the flu, I didn't pay the money for a doc and antivirals in the first 72 hours.
Thankfully, I haven't paid the gas bill yet so, if either of us do end up requiring medical attention, I can get us to a doc and pay for prescriptions.
I'm trying to quarantine us as much as possible--though, assuming I can get my head clear enough to drive, I absolutely HAVE to make it to my shrink appointment today and get to the grocery store. I'll be relying on Germ-X, cough suppressants and having no physical contact with people.
**Edit: Screw that--I'm not spreading this shit. I'm going to run in the closest store for tea bags and a new thermometer (if I can find a non-digital one)--Yes, I killed another one.
This is all the fault of my political obsession.
I simply missed the news that this year's flu vaccine is only effective against 40% of the active strains in the US--causing epidemic status.
So evidently, it is raging here right now...and in 49 states total.
NC Flu Cases and the Vaccine ProblemUS Flu Season and the vaccine problem Here, classes have been canceled frequently at colleges--two teachers from COA ended up hospitalized with it. When Cheri went to the doctor recently, she said the whole waiting room was packed and the receptionist said that most of what they were seeing were flu cases.
Rob stayed home from work yesterday and today--Both because wooziness + power tools doesn't mix and to avoid starting a workplace epidemic. It may make the next couple weeks tighter, especially if one of us does have to see a doctor, but we're caught up enough it shouldn't be disastrous. Either way, poverty is better than making someone sick who might pass it on to their kids, ya know?

So, my warnings--
1. Be aware of the flu issue and, particularly if you have contact with small children or old people, quarantine yourself at the slightest suspicion.
2. I'm killing time while I wait to see if I'm safe to drive by catching up on comments/email. If I say anything incoherent or wacky, blame the plague.

Completely unrelated:
surfocrates--I tried to email you about your video camera and some issues we had with audio when we burned DVDs (sorry we haven't gotten it to you--I've tried but shit is obviously chaotic around here). Has your email address changed? If so, could you send me your new one?
