(no subject)
I haven't updated in a while - and I told Steph I'd do it this weekend, so here I am.
I'm at home at the moment - apparently Leicester thinks it's an awesome idea to give us 5 weeks off for Easter. Not that I'm complaining. I have a lot of work to do this holiday - 4 write ups, 2 tutorials, a law essay, and a presentation and poster on agricultural poisoning.
I'm still really enjoying myself. It's a lot of hard work, but it's great. Phys chem practical's a drag (bring back constant recrystallisations), but only because I have the most infuriating creepy lab partner ever.
Home's ok. Sort of did but didn't lose my job a few weeks ago (Pickfords were bought out), and I was supposed to be working all Easter, but it's so quiet that I'm only there when they need me now. I worked all last week, and I'm working on Monday and Wednesday, but I'm not sure about the rest of the time. (And Amy - when I was working last summer I earned about £1200 every 4 weeks. I'm not fussed about people knowing my salary either!). I should hopefully be working there over the summer again, and I'm hoping to get a waitressing job for the evenings or weekends, so I can afford to live/eat next year and maybe go on holiday over Christmas (Russia! Win!).
I'm hoping that once I've started my second year, I can volunteer for The Samaritans or something. I found out that the house I'll be living in is about 5 minutes away from the centre (or whatever it is) where people answer the phone and shizz. So that should be good (in a weird way, I guess).
I've also planned out what I want to do once I've finished my degree at leicester. I'm currently taking MChem chemistry, so I'll have a research masters once I've graduated, and after that I'm planning on taking a one year Msc in Science Communication at Imperial - I've done a few things in ethics this year which have made me shift my focus somewhat to scientific journalism. I'm sure time will tell whether it's possible or not though.
This week's going to be busy. Aside from work, I'm going to meet a friend in Bedford on Tuesday/Thursday, shopping on Friday, going out with people from work on Friday night and then next Saturday Steph, Jude, Carly (and hopefully Sonia and Sam) and I are planning on going out dressed as fairies. Steph and I went shopping for fairy supplies today - I bought this:
