Sho finished his work for the day with a sigh. He had been going strong since early that morning but he was finally starting to run on empty. As he said goodbye to the last of the staff he walked back to their green room with a sigh. Everyone else would have gone home by now for sure. He yawned and stretched wondering if he should just sleep in the green room. Knowing it wasn’t a great idea he shook his head and left the building. On his way home he stopped at the convenience store and picked up a quick meal. It definitely wasn’t Jun’s cooking but since he had to fend for himself it would have to do. Normally he would simply call the younger member and ask him to make some delicious pasta. But Jun and the rest of Arashi were all out of town while he had to stay behind for Zero.
He unlocked the door of his dark apartment with a sigh. Normally he would have noticed that something was amiss, but the long day coupled with the fact that none of his friends were around on his birthday just put him in a funk. He continued forward after shutting the door, not bothering to even turn on a light. As he stepped into the living room he noticed a light on in his study rom. He walked over and pushed open the door. Sitting in from of his laptop was a candle and a single rose. On the rose was a blue sticky note. As he looked closer he saw recognizable stick figures of the five of them singing their debut song. Unconsciously he began to smile before noticing a second light coming from the living room now. He walked out to find two more candles and two more roses. On these were Yellow and Purple sticky notes. On the yellow one the kanji fro Arashi was written while on the purple he could just make out the kanji for love. Noticing the final light from his bedroom he walked purposely forward.
Inside he found rose petals scattered all over the bed. On his night stand was a candle and a green sticky note. There was a cute cartoon of mirror man drawn pointing back towards the door with the message “Can you find Mirror Man?” He turned around and noticed more light coming from the living room. As he stepped out he saw the three previous candles had been moved to the bar as if to make a path. Deciding to go along he followed them towards his kitchen. Before he could round the corner though someone came up behind him and covered his eyes; the speaker was trying desperately to disguise his voice but Sho easily recognized the timber of Aiba’s voice. Still he played along and did as the “mystery man” told him to.
Following Aiba’s instructions he closed his eyes and let the younger man lead him into the kitchen. Once inside he was told to stand in a certain spot and not move. He stayed put and heard Aiba quickly moving around him to someplace else. He was given a five second warning before the lights came on and blinded him. After he blinked away the spots slowly but surely his band mates came into focus. They were all grinning broadly and he noticed the small pile of presents sitting beside the cake, but what cause him to laugh out loud as they sang was seeing Aiba’s Mirror Man costume in the corner.
“Happy Birthday day deeeaaarrrrr SSSHHHHOOOOO-CHHHHAAAAANNNNN!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday day to YOOOOOOUUUUUUU!!!!!”
Sho was bent over laughing as his friends all finished singing in whatever key they had each chosen. It normally would have sounded terrible but to him it was the best sound in the world. After he finally cought his breath he looked at each and every one of them with a smile.
“Thanks minna… You have no idea how much this means to me… But how did you get back here? The shooting isn’t supposed to be doesn’t until tomorrow right?”
They all grinned and Sho knew something was up. He saw Aiba bouncing up and down in the back and after a nod from Ohno he rushed forward and tackled Sho. It was all he could do to keep standing as the genki man hug him tight and spoke incomprehensible words. After a few minutes he calmed down enough for Sho to actually understand what he was saying.
“Ne~ Sho-chan… we didn’t really have a shoot to do… It was all a ruse that the staff helped us with so that we could plan you this surprise… You are surprised right?!?!”
Sho laughed and assured Aiba that he was indeed surprised. After that they made him blow out the candles on his cake then he was instructed to sit so that he could open his presents. From Nino he got a Mario game for his Wii. It wasn’t a surprise really just typical Nino but he was happy nonetheless. From Jun he received the daily planner that he had looked at the last time he and the younger man had gone shopping together. Inside there was a Saturday already penciled in that read “Shopping with Jun” in the younger man’s beautiful handwriting. From Ohno he received a sketch of the five of them. It continued along the lines of the sticky not but was beautifully detailed and he had written happy birthday along the bottom. Finally turning to the last gift which he could only assume was Aiba’s he opened it slowly. Inside the package was a heavy silver chain with a ring on it. The ring however seemed to be a piece of something bigger. When he looked up at the rest of the he noticed that they too had similar rings. Ohno wore one on a thing chain and he could clearly make out an O. Looking around he realized that the rings put together would spell out A.M.N.O.S. He smiled at Aiba and hugged the younger man fiercely. Letting go he looked around at all of them.
“Minna… Thank you from making my birthday wish come true.”
Ohno smiled gently and asked him what that was.
“Just spending time with my family… That was all I needed.”
Aiba grinned and attacked him again but this time he was joined by the others. They broke the hug soon after and spent the rest of the night talking about their crazy antics that day and how unobservant Sho had been. That night as he went to bed he silently sent out a thank you for his best Birthday wish.
