Weakness
Wesker smirked as Chris and Jill burst through the doors and into the room expecting to find Spencer but instead finding him. Anger and hate lit up their eyes as they saw him and Chris growled his name in surprise. He knew the effect he’d had on the former S.T.A.R.S members, Chris especially, the two of them had dedicated their lives to making him pay for what they perceived as his betrayal, for the part he played in the deaths of their colleagues and friends. The anger was something he could use, something that gave him the advantage.
Chris was blinded by his anger; he wanted so much to make Wesker pay that it could blind him to anything else. It made him reckless and easy to manipulate, it was like dangling a bone in front of a dog, you could get him to follow you anywhere. Jill, she was different, she was a problem. She hated Wesker and wanted just as much as Chris to make him pay but she was smart and rational, she saw the bigger picture, could see consequences and probabilities. She knew when to back down and when to fight and when she fought she did it smartly, fully aware of everything and everyone else.
She had another weakness though; a weakness that both Chris and Jill had in common and that was each other. Wesker had seen it right from the beginning, when they’d been partnered in S.T.A.R.S and he had made a mental note of it and its development. In some ways it made them stronger, made them more of a threat but in other ways it was their weakness. They cared about each other; he’d go so far as to say loved each other and that meant he could use one to get to the other.
Chris was blinded by anger and Jill could be manipulated through love and knowing this gave Wesker all the advantage in this room even if he was the one with two guns pointed at him. They started firing but no bullet was quick enough to hit him and he dodged his way to Chris knocking his gun away and taking Chris out of the game long enough for him to get to Jill. He slammed her into the wall behind her, holding her there by her neck and choking the air from her. If he could get rid of her then the threat that she posed would be eliminated and Chris would be an easy target. He barely saw Chris approach from the side and he moved to avoid him, Chris pushing him away from Jill just that little bit faster.
Chris was stronger then Wesker ever remembered him being, he was a mass of muscles and still somehow able to move quickly but he was no match for Wesker. More bullets from Jill and Wesker was forced to shift his focus back to her long enough to avoid them and send her flying across the room into a nearby bookshelf. Like some kind of tag team Chris was back on him then, Wesker threw him across the room to the large window that over looked the edge of the cliff and watched him struggle for a second to pull himself back up. It was only that second Wesker needed to drag him up from the floor. Looking at the former member of S.T.A.R.S, dangling there, struggling against him he could see the end of this, the end of Chris Redfield and the long time battle between the two of them. It was a bittersweet moment; he would never again have a nemesis like him.
“Let’s finish this,” he said feeling a sense of victory. Before he could move he felt two hands wrap around his waist and Chris slip from his grasp. He was hurtled toward the window, both him and Jill crashing through the glass and plummeting toward what looked like death. He vaguely heard Chris shout, it sounded like her name but the sound was too far away.
He’d known Jill was the bigger threat in the room, despite her being the smallest, least physically strong one there. He’d allowed himself to forget that, forget about her and this was the price for that failure. He had been right though, Jill’s biggest weakness was love, it was Chris and now it was going to be what killed her.
He didn’t know if he’d survive the fall, there was a good chance that he would but if he didn’t, if Chris out lived him, he took solace in the fact that even alive, Chris’s life had just been destroyed. The BSAA agent may not have realised it before but he would now, Jill had been the most important thing in his life and she was gone now. It would tear Chris up, knowing that she’d died for him, to save him and it would be the end of him one way or another.
As the rocky ground approached, Wesker smiled.
