i know it's not my personal business, but i can't help but go ... WTF
so earlier this month i was informed that a friend of mine who has recently split up with her husband of 10 years was without gas due to oversight on said husband's part. their debt to the gas company was $2000+. with reticent help from her family, it was paid off and normal activities resumed. yay.
yesterday I received an email from said friend providing me with alternate contact methods because her electricity has been shut off due to same circumstances as stated above. her current debt to the electricity company is $800+.
She is receiving no financial help from said husband (soon to be EX) and is struggling to pay current debt as well as accumulated debt from a recent purchase of a house (jointly with said husband) and credit card debt from throughout their marriage.
IS there anything that I can do? She doesn't deserve this! And I can't exactly beat the guy up (first of all, he likes that sort of thing, and secondly, he's dating my best friend).
Advice? Sage words? Help?
PS: if you've managed to figure out who i'm talking about, please don't go to them directly... i don't think they'd appreciate my posting their business in a public-ish forum. if you have any suggestions, you can bring them to me and i will pass them along to the parties concerned. thanks.
