Three days happens so fast when you’re just running...hiding...fearing everything. It’s three days since the accident, Alexi is showing no signs of recovery, nor can he see. That accident cost him his freedom, and everything he ever had. And we both know that the hunters are still out there, somewhere, getting closer by the second, we just can’t let them catch us. I’m going to do everything I can do get Alexi away from here, I’ve promised. We’re getting out of here, one way or another.

“All ready to go Alexi?”
“Gimme just two more minutes, Mike, just two more”
“Whenever you’re ready buddy,” Mike replied.
It was any ordinary day in the moist forests of the Eqasian inland. Mike Brockston sat quietly on the ground while his shorter companion, Alexi, rested gently upon a old stump. Only three days before, in a world where deformity or any handicap was rendered illegal, Alexi had lost his eye sight in a accident which placed him on the “black list”. This list allowed the hunters, a group under the fascist government, to track the black-listed people and remove them from all means of society. These hunters controlled law, peace, society and everything needed to complete their goal: the creation of the perfect race. People captured by the hunters where placed in collective concentration camps and many never heard from again.
“Can you tell me what happened again Mikey?,” asked Alexi.
“We was just workin’ up in the diamond mines, mindin’ our own business when some of the equipment when haywire, and you ended up losing your eye sight. Since then the hunters have been on our tail. I think we’ll be alright for a little while at least.”
“There’s no way to not be hunted now is there Mike, we need to run or die?”
“Unfortunately my friend, unfortunately,” Mike said, “ Ready to head on our way again Alexi, we’re only three or four days away from the coast, then that’s three or four days away from freedom.”
“Mikey...I’m still really tired, must we continue tonight? Can’t we just hang around and then move out at daybreak...whenever that may be?”
“Are you sure Alexi?,” Mike asked, “The hunters will catch up with us, they’ll take us away, are you willing to risk it?”
“We’re going to have to risk it, and what to you mean ‘us’, it’s me they’re after”
“Yeah, but I’ve been making sure you’re safe, friend, they’ll lock me away with you, for sure...”
“I’m sorry Mikey,” A saddened Alexi said.
“Don’t be Alexi, just get some sleep”
“Alright, Mikey, you get some too...”
“Go’ night Alexi.”

We’re almost to the coastline, we’ve just stopped to rest, almost to freedom. We’ll get there, one way or another. I’m sure I can get Alexi there, I’ve promised that I would. I just fear this rest-stop has given the hunters the upper hand, they may be closer than we know. We’re prepared for anything, me and my pistol that is...I just know that Alexi and I can only last so much longer before...
Suddenly, there was a rustling in the brush a few feet away from were Alexi lay on the mildly moist ground. Soon enough, too soon, a man dressed in the fascist red and white colours stepped into the small, cramped clearing.
“Oh my heck,” yelled a startled Mike, as he reached for his pistol.
“Mikey, what is it Mikey?” a frightened Alexi screamed out as a gunshot destroyed the peaceful freedom of the moist forest.
“Man down.....black-listers located at Delta 27...ugh, 31, section 6...” the injured man in the colours attempted to get his message across, before taking a unwanted final breath.
“Mikey,” Alexi asked, “What’s happening”
“They’re here Alexi, they’re coming, it’s over.”
“No it’s not Mikey, it’ll never be over, we can beat them.”
“It’s not that easy Alexi, it’s never that easy...” Mike hesitated, “It’ll never be easy to do what needs to be done next..”
“Huh?,” Alexi shrugged.
“No need to worry, it’ll all be fine. I want you to do me a favour right now, think of the place we’ll go once we reach the coast and flee. I promise that will be the place we’ll go. Think of the place where we’ll be, and before you know it, we’ll be there...,” Mike paused, “ I’ll meet you there Alexi.”
...I can only last so much longer before I must settle for my only other answer to this. We’ll simply just head to the place of our dreams. We’ll make it there, one way or another. We’re going to be OK.

An echo threw itself into the forest and shook everything within the green walls. It caught the attention of two men, both dressed in the dreadful red and white, before a second echo ran through the trees. The two men ran towards the origin of the echo, stepped into a isolated, and cramped clearing.
“My god,” the taller man said, “My bloody god.”
The two men glanced in the clearing, the sight of three bodies turned their stomachs inside out.
“Indeed,” the other man said, “ HQ, this is Bravo-Tango-Echo 761562i-A4, reporting three casualties, two men, both black-listed, and the third is a warrior of our brave state. All men located at Delta 27,31 Section 6, Block A1, we’ll report in with more details ASAP.” He paused to look around, “Check their items, maybe we’ll find something.”
“Yes, sir.”
A few minutes passed before either man spoke again.
“Sir, I’ve found something, it looks like a journal.”
“Pass it to me, maybe we’ll find something.” The shorter man ordered.
The taller man handed the book to the other man. He searched through the scratchy handwritten pages to find the most recent entry.

Not very often do I find time to write twice in one day; Today is different. I made a promise to Alexi, a promise I could not keep. I’m truely sorry, my friend, I tried. The state is nearly unstoppable, the world as we know it is corrupt. That’s why I’m meeting you in your paradise, that’s where we belong. That’s the place we should call home, not this place. Never again do I want to return to this place. Never again. One way or another Alexi, we’re going home.
