I'm sure the Vet is a nice person.

I have to start with the fact I never had kids. I took care of brothers for years but never had my own kids. I had cats.

Friday started well enough until Rufus wandered onto my lap and sniffled and I noticed her nose was running like a tap. Step one was finding a vet who would take my two cats (both were sneezing so it became a 2 fer)on a Friday night. Step 2 find cats who seemed to find that moment to read my mind and the yellow pages. I trapped each sneaky brat and put them in a cage. That's when Buffy started to howl.

This is where Mr. Rufus gets his hero moment. He got to carry Rufus's cage while I tried to convince Buffy being outside wasn't so bad after all. First thing we end up doing is attempt to weigh each cat on what looked like a livestock scale. Sounds simple except neither cat would sit still long enough to get a real reading out of them, and neither Mr. Rufus or I wanted to know what we weighed +/- a kitty. I sat with Buffy on my lap worried she'd have a cardiac arrest before the Vet had a chance to assault her. She also gave me the gift of a pound or so of black fur.

We finally got into the inner office and the Vet (a very nice lady) looked over each kitty. Rufus's last experience with veteranarian medicine included numerous enema's and digital exams, so she decided to remain in lump mode and not move or make a noise. Then came the thermometer...I think she had some flashback, but she never growled.

Buffy was next. She was still yowling while the nice vet gave her the once over. How was I to know that the only thing that would shut Buffy up was a thermometer you know where. Well, a hundred or so dollars latter we had anti-biotics, vitamins and a now quiet pair of cats. We made our getaway.

At home I got to find out that getting medicine into my kitties was going to be time consuming. Rufus spit hers out at both of us. Buffy decided to become a whir of claws in an attempt to dodge the eyedropper. Mr. Rufus accused me of having Munchhausen syndrome? I told him the cats would have had to see the vet more than once in 5 years.

Now, it's Monday and I have a few scars from Buffy and Rufus is perking up. I have to take them back to the vet on Saturday and Buffy has to have her shots....I think it's time for Mr. Rufus to prove his worth...;)

Oh, anyone else see Heroes? I liked the show. They are doing an encore tomorrow night for those without VCR's or DVR's.

Rufus
