Robby Gordon Motorsports Expansion?

Jul 08, 2006 23:32

According to www.nascar.com, Robby Gordon Motorsports is looking to expand next season. Whether that is to a 2 car in-house program, or within an alliance with another team is uncertain. One thing is for sure, and that is RGM is looking for more help. Currently, rumors are flying and circulating one of my favorite message boards [you know who you are ;-]that it's going to be Robert Yates Racing. RGM CEO John Story has said that they have talked about "a lot of people in the future," but the team isn't ready for this move...yet. However, he did say that Robby will drive the 7 until the end of his career no matter what, so Gordon is seemingly bent on not selling out and trying to do it himself in NEXTEL Cup.

"We have a lot going on as far as having a second car in our program," Story said. "That's the most exciting thing. That was the plan all along." If this is true, there are a few drivers I'd like to see get a chance in the ride. Most notably, I'd really like to see either David Gilliland or Brendan Gaughan driving for Robby. That's just my personal opinion, or he could go with Matt Crafton or Marcos Ambrose in the truck series, also. The second program will most likely need a sponsor, so why not bring a guy with them that can pull a sponsor, such as Gaughan or Crafton? Crafton has a connection with Menard's, who already sponsors RGM on a part-time basis.

Still really, really early on this RGM expansion update. Hopefully this will all be sorted out by Indy in August. That's a big weekend for teams to announce future plans, and RG would most likely want to do it at one of his favorite tracks on the schedule.
