I have issues with getting carried away with things. I made myself some lip balm over the summer. I'm starting to run low on in since I use it almost obsessively because it works really well and sits next to my bed/workspace (same thing, really). Deciding I need to make myself more, I come across the idea that I could make lip balm for friends too as gifts. With this in mind, I proceed to remember the farmers market they hold here in Socorro. Which, I later realize isn't till October, but that's a minor setback and I didn't let me deter me from my head-long dash into herbal obsessions. Back to the farmers market idea! Remembering this, I think "hey, that'd be a neat way of making money! I could sell lip balms there! containers and supplies wouldn't cost much, right?" then I think that just selling lip balm would be limited and that I should branch out. thinking of other things to do, I think of herbal salves and bath bombs. The bath bombs can be made pretty simply, although I've yet to try them. The herbal salves sounded way interesting--all sorts of things they do! burns, bruises, dry skin, circulation, acne, the possibilities are endless! The madness continues and....
I've now spent:
$23 on containers for the infused oils that the salves require, lip balm and salve containers of varied shapes and sizes, a couple essential oil bottles. I still need somewhere to store the oils once they've been infused, but that's a wall I'll climb when I get there.
$20 on essential oils (two of which I'm not sure would work for the lip balms because they smell strongly and not quite like I expected them to)
$23 on loose herbs to use for the oil infusions (and I need to go back to that store to get some more bees wax for the lip balms)
$21 and counting on olive oil
$10 extra for random accessories to make life easier like funnels for pouring herbs and the olive oil into the bottles and a cheese cloth so I can try my hand at making some grapefruit essential oil
That totals to $97.
I think I need to stop getting so excited about these things. The plus side is that parents gave me $2000 to cover school, text books, and groceries. I managed to spend only $150 or so on books, and school cost $1,182, and I got my $300 paycheck from note taking last semester and gift cards for $60 and $50 for smiths and walmart respectively, so I still have plenty of money for my grocery shopping and won't have to worry about starving or emptying my account to a horrible degree because of this. I love my mommy and daddy! They help me afford to do things! I think I'd just starve or kill myself with one of my textbooks if I didn't have them to fund me like they do.
Also, I have to say I love the first 2 weeks of school--despite having enough classes that I wish I /could/ shake a stick at them, there hasn't been much homework yet since a lot of people are still adding/droping classes and the teachers don't want to deal with all the work. On that note, my philosophy through film teacher is a BEAST. That woman, after having had leg and hip surgery both within the past 6 years and being rather twig-like in appearances, CAN HOLD DOWNWARD DOG FOR 10 MINUTES WITHOUT FLINCHING AND CAN DO A FLAWLESS PLANK POSE AND HOLD IT! Anyone who has done these poses knows that it puts a lot of strain on arms and legs--I can't hold either for as long or as well as she can. This woman is made of metal or something, I swear!
