Mating is very important for any owl. As we mate for life and death, our mate must be chosen very carefully, so is the moment we choose to approach. Because we are night birds, flirting in daylight may be considered adventurous, but then again, a Lehnsherr Owl would never run away from a challenge.
Step 1: Making contact.
Now, while other owls, those miserably timid ones, choose to make their move tentatively, I will not make the same mistake. After setting my eyes on the slightly smaller owl on that tree branch, I will perch directly upon the spot next to her, or him.
Step 2: Displaying affection.
Turns out the owl is also a male, but it’s not a problem, because I like him already. The problem now is how to make him like me, which should be easy. I make a risky strike by nuzzling him on his right cheek, right under the eye. He pushes me away at first, but it seems like I’ve made the right move. He seems to like it, and starts giving in.
Step 3: Continuing step 2
Nuzzling may seem passionate, but it’s not enough if you want to be serious. A gentle kiss on the beak will have to do. You’ll have to…
Oh that’s nice… Yes… I can do this all day… Yes…
Step 4: Bringing him home. Or let him bring you home.
“Erik?”
“Yes Charles?”
“We’ve arrived already, are you still day dreaming?”
