In my personal opinion I do not think they mean a literal system... however it can certainly be interpreted that way.

Possible, yes, but that is not the way I see it. I believe two truths have room to exist until one is proven false. In fact, at this point, being narrow minded would only hinder your progress.

I interpreted it as a system of shared consciousness among the drones... although I must admit I do not know what a computer is. I have no such things in my world, you see.

Ah, it's a machine that one inserts a program into. The machine runs the program, and will continue doing so until it finds a quit prompt, or a human shuts it off. They were very common where I existed before this.

In my world, man had become extremely technologically advanced. They had managed to link into something they called the U.M.N., or the Unus Mundus Network. Loosely, it translates to "One World Network," or basically a network that connected everyone together.

What humans were unaware of, however, is that their computers were actually connecting to what is called the Collective Unconscious, also known as the Realm of God.

Perhaps it is best just to think of it as a link from a machine to the Realm of God in this case. It caused a few people to lose all memory, unless they were linked.
