Asianwiki Synopsis:
"My Darling is a Foreigner" tells the quirky story of a Japanese woman and an American man as they enter into a relationship and eventually marry. Saori (Mao Inoue) is a manga artist. She meets language geek Tony (Jonathan Sherr), who has arrived in Japan after falling in love with the language. As the couple become closer, Saori is inundated with strange questions about the language from Tony. Are these weird questions a trait of his foreign background? Or is it because of his linguist preoccupation? More importantly, can their relationship survive? From
Asianwiki I wont go in to the movie or story itself, but I must say that this has to be one of the best 'slice-of-life' and 'relationship' movies that there is. Not only does it go through happy and sad moments of life, but also covers possible problems of relationship, not only between two persons from different countries and cultures, but also of what is life of a couple in regular.
What I found endearing was the chemistry between Mao and Jonathan (the lead actress & actor). They worked together so well I noticed that I started to actually wish these two would get married in real life. They just look so cute together and seemed so natural in everything they did together in this movie. Their interaction was so endearing I actually started to cry (out of happiness) at the end of the movie. Wont tell what happened tho'! ;D
This has to be Mao's best role ever. Well, atleast from those roles that I've seen from her THIS is the best. Second best would be her role in
Home Drama, which I suggest everyone should watch as well.
Also, Jonathan Sherr. From WHERE have they found such a cute guy?! I rarely think western men as cute or even find them this interesting (well yes, I do have a few western actor crushes, but all of them are around 50 years of age, so...), but Jonathan.. he's cute AND good looking at the same time and has amazing smile. And I liked his voice. I like him. Period.
All in all, this movie was definitely worth watching and shedding a few happy tears. And now I want this manga.
