[note: this takes place in a verse where reject!ten was left in Martha's care instead of Rose's]
With one last click, he finished up his paperwork for the day. Well, technically it wasn't paper work since UNIT was paperless. Computer work, maybe? But computer work made it sound like he was doing more than ticking off a million monotonous

She glanced up when she heard the Doctor's voice, smiling broadly - and then the alarms went off. Martha grabbed the PDA in a pocket of her labcoat, hitting a few buttons to see what the problem was. "Looks like security's been breached," she said to the Doctor. "Probably just another nosy journalist." Still, the lack of information meant one thing: they'd have to find out for themselves.
Martha shrugged out of her labcoat and folded it over the back of a chair. "Want to go see?"

He turned on his heels making a run down the hall. He didn't stop to see if Martha followed suit. He assumed she would. This was the thrill of the chase. This was -
"What are you doing?" a rather severe looking woman asked him, forcing him to skid to a stop.
"What?"
"There is no running in the halls."
He looked from the red blinking lights to the women in confusion. He pointed up towards the sirens.
"But. The alarm? Danger?"

"Oh. Right." Martha held up her identification badge. Being the medical officer allowed her to pull rank on any number of people in UNIT, not that it was something she used often. "Doctor Jones, medical officer." She gave the woman a polite, somewhat frosty smile. "This is my assistant, Doctor Smith. We've got orders." Which was a complete lie, but a useful one.

"Your assistant?" he asked raising an eyebrow, " I bet you loved that!"

"What would they want in there?" he said, more to himself than Martha, taking note of the items that were missing.
The Doctor wasn't as lucky as Martha, and actually did run into the soldiers.
"So sorry," he said, patting the one on the back.
He had the benefit of being quite a bit taller than Martha. Standing on his tiptoes, he looked over the heads of the soldiers. What he saw made him take two steps back.
"It can't be..."

"He's supposed to be dead!" she exclaimed, feeling a burst of rage surge through her. "Dead and burnt and gone, not rummaging through our stores." Martha scowled at the door, clenching her hands into fists. "And we're just going to let him do whatever the hell he wants? Why not shoot him on sight?"
"Doctor Jones," one of the men protested, "that's the former Prime Minister."
"Like hell it is! That's the Master." She doubted any of them had read UNIT's copious files on him - but she certainly had. What's more, she had plenty of first-hand experience with him. It was almost enough to make her want to steal a gun and shoot him on the spot.

He went up to the Master and pushed him back against the wall, knocking over equipment in the process. He didn't care, all he could see was red.
"What the hell are you doing here," he demanded, ignoring the shouting going on behind his back.
"Turn around now!" he heard a UNIT soldier shout at him.
"Better do what he says," the Master smiled placing a hand on the Doctor's chest, "it looks like you only have one heart. Being shot for you probably has a way of staying permanent ( ... )

"Looking through our alien technology, hm?" she asked coolly, turning her attention back to the Master. "Someone wants to get off Earth, it looks like." Of course; he had to be trapped here, and without any resources available to him. At least last time, he'd had the TARDIS, and all the technology contained within.

"Deja vu," the Master smiled, his eyes on Martha.
Finally his eyes turned back to the Doctor. The Doctor was so busy glaring at the Master, he didn't notice the UNIT soldiers approach him. Just like with the Master, they pushed him against the wall and handcuffed him as well.
"Oi!" he shouted, as they finished cuffing him, then turned him back around so he was standing shoulder to shoulder with the Master. "What are you doing? Martha!"
"UNIT prison. Been a long time," the Master smiled. "And I have the - well not the Doctor seeing as you're half human and all - I have, John Smith here to keep me company!"
Reply
"Insubordination, Doctor Jones," the man handcuffing the Doctor told her. "Sorry, but we can't release him without orders from his commanding officer - and that's not you."
Martha pursed her lips, her irritation plain on her face. "Fine," she huffed. Clearly, she would just have to break the Doctor out.

"Just like old times," the Master said, smiling at the Doctor as they walked, "Except of course, you're not really the Doctor. One heart, no regenerations. You're just, nothing. John Smith. Human." The Master said the last word with a disgusted eye roll as they continued to walk.
"And Doctor Jones!" the Master shouted, "Savior of the world!"
The Doctor couldn't imagine what was going through Martha's mind. The man who imprisoned her family. Burned entire countries trying to capture her. The man the Doctor tossed her aside for. Was ready to "keep."

He looked shocked. "Gag the prime minister?"
"Former Prime Minister," Martha pointed out. "You usually lose titles like that when you're declared legally dead." She glared daggers at the Master's back, trying to rein her temper in. Getting angry wouldn't do the Doctor any good - and it wouldn't even do anything to the Master, not with him safely in UNIT custody.

"Yes, gag him!" he shouted, "Please!"
They rounded another corner and waited as the guards unlocked the door.
"You two can pretend all you want," the Master said, "but you know you missed me."

"Good point." He pushed the Doctor up against the wall roughly, patting him down. Martha groaned.
"No, not him, the Master!"

He knew it wasn't Martha's fault, but really. Being patted down, while the Master watched with that stupid smirk. Humiliating wasn't even the word for it.
He was pushed into the cell. He took a seat on the bench against the wall watching the Master and Martha and various UNIT soldiers. All he wanted today was a little excitement. Something besides paperwork. Not this.
