muses_gonewild prompt 63. "Love is the hardest habit to break, and the most difficult to satisfy." - Drew Barrymore (quote)]
It wasn't supposed to be an overnight journey. It was supposed to be quick, drive in to investigate, return to UNIT headquarters, get home. Leave impossible piles of paper work (data entry work?) for tomorrow morning.
But it had turned into an overnight journey, and the Doctor (or was it John Smith?) and a certain Doctor Martha Jones, found themselves in a Holiday Inn somewhere in Bristol.
He wasn't complaining. Overnight adventure beat possible paperwork and X-Factor any day of the week. Although he was wondering if Keeley would make it towards the finals. The second the thought entered his mind, he wanted to kick himself. Work and rent and bills and X-Factor. Brilliant.
He pushed the thought away quickly. Taking in the hotel. Beige and bland and tiny. Still, it seemed good enough. Besides, hotels were always fun. Tiny bottles of soap and mints on your pillow and all the other little bonuses.
Plus the idea of sharing a hotel room with Martha wasn't entirely horrifying. Although at times it was a bit nerve wracking. Especially any time his gaze lingered long enough on her hands - she had lovely hands - to notice the diamond ring on her finger. He never understood what was so impressive about diamonds to begin with, except perhaps the process involved in mining and cutting and making. The diamond itself, didn't seem particularly special.
He plopped down in a chair in the corner of the room, kicking his legs up over the sides, and then he noticed, finally.
"There's only one bed," he said to Martha. Motioning to the large bed in the middle of the room. He did like hotels, yes. But he had grown accustomed to the ritual of sleep as well. And he wanted a bed, and he didn't feel like sleeping in the tub or on the tiny chair. "How is that going to work, then?"
