I talked to my sister last night and apparently, my nephew has been talking up a storm at school all week.

The other day he was playing with a dinosaur toy while the teacher was changing his diaper. He looked at the toy and said, "I like you."

While playing with the mulch on the playground, the teacher asked him what he was doing and he said, "Patty mulch." That's exactly what he was doing.. patting the mulch.

Amanda told me all of this and it brought tears to my eyes. It's so amazing. It's bigger than Amber learning to say, "Popsicle." Or her saying, "Woot woot train" every time a train passes. That's what normal kids do.

Akira isn't normal. He's autistic. He's four years old and he's finally starting to talk. Something that, with as much as I hoped for it to happen, I wasn't sure it ever actually would happen. But it is. Slowly but surely, it's happening. It's just.. miraculous and awesome and it makes me so absolutely ecstatic. :)
