I have so much work to do! Yesterday I dedicated a bunch of time to writing out things for my project and an outline of the layout of my film. I did get some things done but then I found myself sidetracked into watching half of season one of Kids in the Hall and getting weirdly inspired (maybe it was all the crossdressing??) to go on a tangent about gender and male conceptions of female gender roles (which is interesting in context since you can see it physically in their interpretation of their movement, character, and vocal intonation).
I called Kristina (my teacher) and we talked for awhile about essentialist arguments surrounding ethnic identity (and how the essentialist argument is unavoidable in the discussion). It's made me think about other essentialist arguments (such as for gender or art) as well and how "rules" and "codes" for identification are constructed and upheld by communities. She told me that the context that I was placing those arguments in my project was " very interesting". It's weird when I was talking to my cousin Brandon about the project we talked about the "Hawaiian community" and the "JA community" and in some ways a lot of people who have membership in these communities don't know it or aren't aware of it most of the time because there aren't involved in "activities". --> --> ??
I'm going to go send my mail and eat good food with Wes then more PAPER MAdNEss. Hope: I will have this shit done by Thursday afternoon.
