Preston's in the Wasteland, sitting on the stage and strumming his bass absently.

He's in a good mood. There are reasons for this.

. . . they don't have to do with the trial, which is taking its own sweet time about getting organized while the accused sit around in a basement and take up resources, but right now he's not thinking about that so

Journey wanders in.

Journey wanders over to the stage.

Journey carefully and with great dignity lies on the stage and closes her eyes to listen to the music, smiling.

Pretty typical Journey.

Preston doesn't stop his pizzicato, but he looks a little amused as he tilts his head over his shoulder.

"Hey, Journey."

"What's that Shakespeare line about music and food and everything?" she asks, not opening her eyes.

"If music be the food of love, play on?"

Preston grins. "Except the guy who said it was in love with the wrong girl, and also kinda emo, and eventually gets sick of it and tells the player to shut up, so if that's where the quote is going . . ."

"That one!"

She opens one eye to look at him. "Oh. Well. Can you play on anyway? I promise not to get emo. I'm not in love with the wrong girl."

Not since freshman year. That was a fun three months.

Preston keeps playing, obligingly.

"I dunno whether Armand'd be happy or kind of disappointed to hear that," he remarks.

Journey gives this due consideration.

"Well," finally, "I don't know what girl I would fall in love with. I think Russ would mind if I had a thing with Gwen."

"Plenty of girls at the shelter."

Preston raises his eyebrows. "And I wouldn't've thought wolf or not would be a big deal for you."

"Other wolves aren't scared of wolves," she points out. "But I guess humans aren't as much anymore, either."

Beat.

"The motorcycle might be kind of a turn-off, though, I guess. Am I butch?"

To all appearances, Preston gives this question due and serious consideration.

"I'm not sure it counts as butch when it's part of a cultural heritage," he says, after a moment, very solemnly. "And motorcycles are a pretty firmly embedded part of wolf culture by this point."

Journey giggles.

"You're cute when you're anthropological."

Preston's smile is a little wry.

"Yeah, but you've already got a werewolf boy these days. Time to start branching out, right?"

"I do." She tilts her head back against the stage, smiling dreamily.

"Well, maybe. Experimentation is a good way to establish boundaries, after all."

Preston knows that gambit, right?

Ohhhhh yes he does.

It is possible he is making a small face to himself. Or to his bass. Either way, Journey can't see it!

"Boundaries, huh?"

"Mmmmmmmhm."

Journey just smiles.

Preston is not certain that Journey has boundaries, but this seems like it would be a rude thing to say. Therefore, he changes the subject.

"So how is Armand these days? Haven't seen him in a bit."
