Or it's Daniel, anyway. Patting a dusty looking Crabapple on her side as he pulls off her saddle outside. Looks like he's planning to stay for a little while.

Preston thinks it may have been Daniel who mentioned it to him, actually. But he can't remember.

At any rate, considering the fact that Daniel lives with Anna . . . it seems a fair assumption.

Preston shakes his head.

"No. Nothing's sure. - I mean, he's been linked with one crime scene, and with a known attempted murder, at least. Gwen caught his scent. So - it seems really fucking likely.

"But it's not sure."

"It's sure enough that I won't go looking for him to apologize for misjudging his intentions for being in Chicago. The man is trouble."

Daniel's jaw is set. "What will happen next?"

"Russ and Claire promised me backup."

Preston's holding onto the 'me', there. He wants to be in charge of this - in part because he has a very strong feeling that if he isn't, the people responsible aren't likely to survive long enough to come to trial.

"I'm gonna call it in."

He has to tell Anna. Daniel feels like he could use a little backup for that.

Yeah, but does he really want Russ and Claire as his backup for that?

"There were two other guys there when I got chased. There might be more - I dunno."

He looks at Daniel, and then says, calmly, "To take them in, and put them somewhere to wait for trial. Is the idea."

"They're two of the people in charge in this city, as far as it goes," Preston points out.

"If I go in alone I'm not likely to survive it long, man. If I try any of this alone it's not going to last long. I need political heft."

Possibly he's out of his league. And he knows it. However: some things have to be done, regardless.
