When Les sees them come in, his eyes round and his mouth opens very slightly; not saying a word, he leaps out of his seat, gawky, and hurries to help Gwen support Claire. He goes to the stage with her and sits down with one of her hands in his, looking from her to the others and back again. Claire. Russ. Gwen. Claire. Preston. Claire. Vanessa. Journey. Claire.

Les looks confused and unhappy.

Gwen frowns.

Runs a hand through her hair.

"Um," she says. "Les."

"Yes," he says. Looks up. "Gwen. I just -- Karla told me, kind of."

She frowns.

"Okay."

Nods.

"Um. I don't ... her pulse is okay. So she should ... I mean, if she doesn't wake up soon, you should tell me, and I'll ... get someone."

"Um."

She shrugs, feeling a bit guilty.

"It's no problem."

A glance around at the Wasteland, which now features pallet-like things that resemble mattresses. She smiles faintly.

"Everybody was ready for the worst, huh?"

"I guess," he says; looks around. Looks back at Gwen with a slow smile.

"We're resilient people, huh."

She glances down at Claire, then over at Russ and Vanessa.

Her smile turns a little wry.

"Looks like it."

His smile wavers, slightly. "I had almost forgotten."

"I think ... a lot of us had."

She glances at him, curious and a little wary-- Les is one person she wouldn't imagine even thinking about skipping town.

"And now ... you're not going to?"

He shakes his head. "I don't think so. Um.

"Well, for one thing, I doubt that there's anywhere better to go."

"Probably not."

A pause. She makes a bit of a face.

"Which ... is still kind of weird. But what can you do."

Gwen blinks.

... But at this point, why is she even vaguely surprised that Les would answer a rhetorical question?

"That's true," she agrees, after a beat.

"Very true."
