Vanessa smiles back, then her expression fades a bit when Gwen doesn't stick around to chat. Okay, so it's her own fault she hasn't been around lately, but... all right, so it's her own fault.
Nothing to do but wait for some customers, so scrub glasses while you wait.
"Going all right." Vanessa isn't going to talk about the sleepless nights after the fire, the way she wanted to curl up and die whenever someone mentioned the University of Chicago. Her brother might be out there somewhere. She stayed inside until she stopped seeing his face everywhere she tried to go.
So right now she's got enough precarious balance to flash a smile. "Hey, think I should learn how to mix drinks?"
"Maybe a tropical theme night, with fruity drinks and flamingos and grass skirts." Vanessa is plotting already, though she has no idea where they're going to get fake palm trees.
Then notices Gwen's expression. "Um, unless you don't like it?"

"Hey," she says with another faint smile-- and if she's surprised to see her, it doesn't really show.
"Everything going okay?"

"Mix ... drinks."
And she smiles, wry.
"Now there's a concept. Question is do we have anything that would make a recognizable drink."

Gwen's lips quirk.
"Bet they'd go great with the flamingos."
(And then, of course, her smile falters-- flamingos, of course, spring from Salla.
... Only not, like, from his forehead or anything.)

And shakes her head quickly, running a hand through her hair.
"No, no ... uh. Let's just say it's better than my other theme night suggestion."

If Vanessa heard this, she doesn't remember, and she is Curious!

"Crossdressing night."

Vanessa's tone is a bit dark. She has memories from Before.

"Well, it doesn't take a lot to beat my legs, so. I wasn't a fan."
This may or may not be a slight revision of history.

"We could have karaoke night!"

:D?
"That seems to be a popular one. Plus, no skirt-weaving required."
