[lesper]

Les walks into the Wasteland and sits down at a table, looking around him expectantly.

After a pause, he tilts the chair back, nervous, and plays at not falling out of it while it rests on two legs.

Anna raises one eyebrow.

"Do you think anyone's ever managed to do one leg?"

[lesper]

"Maybe at MIT."

He sounds perfectly serious.

[sky_from_sea]

The other eyebrow goes up.

"Not a gymnastics club?"

[lesper]

Les smiles. "That would make sense, too."

[sky_from_sea]

Anna laughs quietly.

"Only one would involve pulleys, I suppose."

[lesper]

"Yes, but which one?"

[sky_from_sea]

"The one without vaulting horses?"

Anna has no idea.

[lesper]

Les laughs, too. "Are you going to sit down?"

[sky_from_sea]

Anna smiles, inclining her head only a little.

"If you wouldn't mind the company."

And she pulls out a chair for herself.

[lesper]

"Be my guest," says Les.

[sky_from_sea]

"Thank you."

She sweeps her skirt out of the way and sits down.

"How have things been with you, Les?"

[lesper]

"As good as it gets, I guess . . . "

[sky_from_sea]

The corner of her mouth quirks.

"I daresay most people would say the same, wouldn't they?"

[lesper]

"I mean it, though," says Les. "How 'bout you?"

[sky_from_sea]

Her smile goes wry.

"I'm settling in."

She's not sure if that's a good thing or not.

[lesper]

"That's good."
