[Personality] At first, Sayaka was a incredibly energetic girl that was mostly known as a tomboy. Her mannerisms and words were uncommon for a typical Japanese school girl to say. She had the habit of rambling loudly, and always incorporated grandiose gestures with her speeches. Sayaka is very close to Madoka, and constantly clings to and teases her about wanting to become popular with the guys. She is also very protective of her, joking that she won't hand Madoka over to any guy, and that she'll become Madoka's husband. However, this protectiveness surfaces in more serious situations when Sayaka doesn't hesitate to attack Homura with a fire extinguisher when she thought that Madoka was being threatened, and tries her best to comfort Madoka when they both become traumatized over Mami's gruesome death.
Despite her tomboyish nature, Sayaka is actually quite mature and can give insightful statements about situations, to the surprise of Madoka and others. She views herself as a hero once she gets her Magical Girl abilities, and wants to user her powers to protect others. She hates people who do thing solely for their own personal again, to the point of wanting to pick a fight with them. She is also a lover of classical music, which stemmed from her relationship with her childhood friend, Kyousuke Kamijo, who was a violin prodigy. Sayaka has a huge crush on Kyousuke, and became a Magical Girl by wishing to heal his paralyzed wrist so he could play the violin again and get out of his depression.
However, the once genuinely cheerful part of her personality becomes an outer shell to hide what she has now become since she accepted the task of being a Magical Girl. Sayaka is mostly depressed, lonely, and will get into fights easily when provoked. Though she tries her best to pretend to be happy around her friends Madoka and Hitomi, she's openly sullen and irritable when speaking with others. She views herself as only a piece of rock controlling a corpse, and doesn't see herself as human anymore. Due to this, she feels that she doesn't deserve to be with Kyousuke, and despairs over this fact. She is somewhat broken from these revelations, and at times can seem mentally unstable, though this may have more to do with her Soul Gem corruption.
[Specialties/Abilities] The silver ring on Sayaka's left middle finger can transform into a small blue jewel known as a Soul Gem. With it, she can track witches, familiars, and monsters by how brightly it glows. Her Soul Gem also grants her the power to transform into a Magical Girl, complete with a henshin sequence. In this form, Sayaka is granted superhuman strength and agility, as well as endurance. She is able to jump extremely high, and create runes to bounce off from. She has been bestowed knowledge of swordsmanship, and can produce a large amount of swords from her cloak. Sayaka can also use these swords as projectiles by throwing them. As her wish was to heal Kyousuke's paralyzed hand so he could play the violin again, she has the ability to heal faster than other magical girls, though more severe wounds take longer to heal.
However, the abilities of a Magical Girl are not without a price. A Soul Gem is literally a Magical Girl's soul given the physical form of a stone, which controls their actually lifeless body. No matter how much a Magical Girl is injured or maimed, her body can be repaired with magic if their Soul Gem is not broken. If her Soul Gem were to be more than 100 meters away from her body, the body will become an empty shell, thus "dying". When Magical Girls use their powers, the Soul Gem becomes more and more dim and corrupt, causing them to become weaker and have a harder time controlling their bodies. The only way to purify the corruption is to kill a Witch and use the Grief Seed they drop to shove the corruption into it. Furthermore, if a Soul Gem is corrupted far enough, it will gradually make a Magical Girl's sanity slip until they fully become a Witch and "dying".

[Fighting] Sayaka will not actively seek out fights and will transform into a Magical Girl only for either self-defense or being provoked into one. It is implied that when she overheard two men bragging about how they beat on their girlfriends, she killed them. Tread carefully in that regard. Also, the only way for Sayaka to be truly killed is to destroy her Soul Gem, which is placed on her belly in Magical Girl mode. However, if she is injured severely enough, she will be unable to move her body, and will take a while to recuperate.
