After leaving Samara at the compound, Jon thought the best thing to do would be to go back to Summerfell. It was not what he wanted to do; he was not overfond of the idea of seeing any of his siblings just yet, but he knew he had to do it soon or late. So he made his way down the path slowly, Ghost heeling close to his strides instead of trotting ahead as he often did.

As he got close to the shelter, he saw it was deserted, and he was guiltily relieved. He saw his sharpening stone near Arya's bedroll and picked it up, going to sit just outside the small structure where the sun could warm him. After yesterday, he was not sure he would ever feel comfortable in his skin or his surroundings again.

He had his sword across his knees and was running the stone down the blade in slow strokes, when Ghost looked up with a grin as Grey Wind came into view. Jon looked down again, feeling a mixture of gladness and dread at the conversation he knew was coming.
