I want to do a real update soon, but this will have to suffice for now:
Recently, I lost my DS and Japanese-English dictionary software [for the DS] which I got in Japan. For channukah, my parents said they'd get me new ones. Hooray! Meanwhile, Nick and Toph got me a new DS because they're awesome and they love me. Woo! So I got the dictionary on my own and asked my parents to pay for a refurbished 360 instead of the ds+dictionary; they agreed. So I ordered the super cheap-o refurbished 360 from gamestop's website a few days ago, and it arrived today. I realized last night that I'm gonna have to go pay like $60 for a HDD to save games anyway, so I probably should have just gone for the new version in the first place. Anyway.
As I said, it arrived today. There were two problems, though. One minor, one catastrophic. The minor problem is that, at first, the disc drive wouldn't open. Once I removed the faceplate and jiggled it, it opened, so that wasn't TOO big a deal. I mean, it is refurbished. The big problem was that it can't read discs. Pretty fucking vital. First it said stuff like "please insert this disc into an Xbox 360 console," as if the 360 were just a dvd player. After I ran the initial setup as if I'd bought it new, it would actually tell me the disc can't be read, but it assumed it was a faulty disc. I looked it up online, and apparently there's a disc-reader hardware issue.
Anyway, I called up gamestop and now I have to ship the console back to them, and they'll ship me another. I can't exchange it at a local store. Ugh. Worst. Chranukristmas. Ever.
