Alphabet
The alphabet soup (with the carrot pieces) was his favourite food because he liked to make words with the letters as he ate - once he spelled D-E-A-N in his spoon, and it made his brother smile just like he did when Daddy told him you did good, son and that made Sammy happy too.
Bright
He spotted Sam right away, across the schoolyard, looking sun-bright and so happy that, for a moment, Dean had to look away, and seeing his brother like this, chatting with his geek-friends, all smiles and enthusiasm - everything he’d not been on recent hunts - suddenly Dean was glad that he had put the letter back, in-between the pages of Crime and Punishment, where he’d found it.
Choice
Sam can say without shadow of a doubt that he’d die for his brother, but to keep living his life like this - hunting, scamming, lying - Sam’s not willing to do that, not to avenge a mom he can’t remember or to obey a dad who hardly cares, not for the greater good, not even for Dean.
Coffee
For Dean, drinking his coffee black has never been a matter of taste but a matter of habit - the bitterness, the burn wakes him up, and doing without dairy is a lesson learnt from one expired carton of milk too many.
Hindsight
Sam supposes there’re many things he wishes hadn’t happen; if only Dean didn’t go after the rawhind alone; if only he went back in faster; if only there weren’t puddles on that basement floor; if only dad was there; if only they didn’t do this kind of things day after week after month after year; if only there were no evils no demons no fire; all he knows is this is Dean and Sam will save him, nothing else matters.
Home
I'm Sam, you're Dean and we're brothers, he's been told, and even though he doesn't remember the concerned face or puppy dog eyes he feels like he is where he supposes to be, sitting in a '67 black Impala beside this giraffe of a kid, is where he belongs.
Inevitable
This is how it ends - the recognition comes to Dean as he steps smoothly around Sam, pushing his brother aside and body-slams The Demon into the thin air behind, with the real Colt in his hand on its forehead he fires, then everything turns into light and heat - as it has always meant to be.
Moon
Sammy figured, there must be better ways for two teenagers (even ones who grew up like them) to spend an evening than stalking werewolves in the suburban woods with their dad (like watching that lunar-exploration documentary marathon on Discovery), but then he looked over to Dean (who would totally sit through said marathon given enough of Dad’s beers), whose hands remained steady despite the rush of adrenaline, seeing the focus in his eyes and the glow of anticipation on his face (looking a bit like a cat ready to pounce), and Sammy realized there was nowhere else he'd rather be.
Trade
He shook his head and smiled a little at the lady who offered him the cookies; even though he’d like some and they were his favourite chocolate chip cookies, Dean wouldn't have any because he had to keep his promise to give up something he really really loved, so Mommy would come back like the princess in that story she read him once.
Weakness
A nonchalant pat on the shoulder, a casual grasp on the arm, always brief and never lingering - Sam's been more touchy feely ever since Dean's heart thing, and Dean lets him, telling himself that it’s been a hell of a month and Sam just needs some reassurance, no big deal - it’s not like Dean feels ridiculously comforted by the fleeting touches.
