Comments: Happy Birthday, Kai-kun~ XD Yeah...I wanted to post this yesterday, but I've been really busy with projects and last minute assignments I had to finish for school (I can't afford to fail anything this year!) So, this may be a bit crapy, due to the fact I didn't have the time to go over typing errors and the such, but I'll do it when I do have the time. Please, enjoy. Beautiful comments are dearly loved.

"What the fuckin' hell? I told you to keep your damn fingers out of the cake icing, didn't I." Ruki questioned with a glare, moving swiftly to block the taller, giggling man who had reached out to swipe more icing from the corner of the cake, brown eyes dancing with laughter as he looked down at the petite auburn haired vocalise, a bright smile upturning the corner of his lips.

"Ne, Taka-chan, I just wanted to have a sample taste." "Your not suppose to be here in the first place. You still would have had a good ten minutes if those lazy asses would have done their job right." Ruki huffed with a roll of his contact blue eyes, pursing his lips together as he turned his back to Kai. Yes, said lazy asses having to be none other than well known guitarists and bassist. All he had asked for them to do was to simply stall Kai, nothing more and nothing less. It wasn't like he had asked them to bring him to their home and keep him distracted by doing unimaginable things to him, but by all means they should have kept him distracted. Oh, if they've even went as far as thinking they would get away with doing a half assed job, they've got another thing coming, Ruki had thought with a small smirk as he proceeded with placing more icing where Kai's finger had oh so greedily swiped off at. They will feel his wrath tomorrow, that was a promise he will not forget. "I work hard on trying to back a simple cake and behold, you've come to ruin it before I could serve it up," Ruki's dead-paned murmuring only caused Kai's giggles to turn into laughter.

"It's the purpose of a cake, ne? You bake it, and one is suppose to eat it."

"Not when someone is still working on it," Ruki groaned before eyeing the drummer with narrowed eyes of irritation yet all he received was a wide smile still in place. With a soft growel did he use his free hand to shove lightly at the other's shoulder, "Now stop bothering me and get out of my kitchen. You're getting on my nerves." Kai sighed softly after his small fit of laughter and rubbed at his shoulder.

"Hmm, your bossy nature hasn't changed a bit, ne? Off camera and behind." He qustioned softly with a small smile of rememberance. A rare silence had settled between them as Ruki had came to a slow hault, holding the icing spreader within his icing stained hands while his eyes remained staring blankly now at the birthday cake that was currently unfinished. A silence that gave Kai the advantage to see, if only briefly, the small cracking of a mask Ruki seemed to plaster on most of the time when ever around him. But as soon as he saw it, it had vanished with a small smirk curving at the corner of the petite male's lips .

"No...I suppose not. Not a damn bit"

--------- I

It wasn't until around ten o'clock that night that you could find the vocalist and drummer laying onto their backs within the middle of Ruki's apartment, a birthday cake half eaten and the words "Happy Birthday" and "Yuu" were already missing, all except "-taka", part of Kai's name that was saved, still written atop the surface of the cake in blue icing. Yet a bit smudged now once Ruki's index finger blindly reached over and swiped at the last 'a' of Kai's name. Parting his plush lips did he slip his index finger within his moist tarven, humming softly around his digit with satisfaction. This had only caused the drummer to instantly sit up and stare at him with a look that Ruki could not help but laugh at: Doom.

"Aww, Taka! I wanted to take that part of the cake home with me - not ruined."

"Pay back's a bitch, isn't it?" Chuckled Ruki revengfully as he slowly sat up only to prop himself up onto his elbow, a fine eyebrow arched as he watched Kai look from him and to his birthday cake, only to look at him once more.

"You're evil, has anyone told you that?" Kai sighed as he fell back to lay on his backside once more with a small pout, though he couldn't help but smile slightly at the giggle he heard not too far from his side.

"Who, me? Evil? Now I truely know all of that work at the company has went straight to your head: you're imagining things, Yuu." Laughed Ruki, his now dark brown eyes staring at his friend's form. Watching his his chest rose and fell with each breath he took, a soft snort of amusment reaching his ears along with an quiet "it's you who's imagining things, Taka-chan." Just like from earlier today silence had fell over them once more, but this time it was rather comfortable. There was no sudden tensing from his end, racking his mind to think of what to say next when the drummer often said words like he had done earlier today within the kitchen. To be truthful, Ruki has found himself not being as careful as he should on some days - often saying things that made them both remember, did things that instantly sent them within akward moments and back to square one: trying to regain that small shread of friendship back. Simply treading over water, never knowing weither he would stay balanced or fall and sink to the bottom of the sea...

"What has been your best birthday wish that has come true so far, Yuutaka?" Ruki asked rather randomly within a tone of curiosity that quickly gathered Kai's attention and made him turn his head to the side within his direction, dark eyes filled with questioning of why the sudden bringing of topic. Ruki had decided to tread that said water once more for tonight...

"Hmmm...There's a lot that has been best to me, Taka. I just can't single it to one-"

"But if you could." He intervened, cutting Kai off, "If you could...Which one would it be." He hadn't realized that he had moved a bit more closer to the drummer now, their eyes still locked within a gaze that Ruki refused to break. Not even as Kai had sat up to prop himself up onto his right elbow and turn onto his side so he was facing him completly. He couldn't help the small feeling that Kai's gaze was filled with knowing of where he was going with this, was reading him like a book - so hesitant to decide if he, too, should walk that same path he knew he wasn't suppose to take...

Kai watched his petite friend - his petite ex lover - as he slowly made his way closer to him. The closer Ruki became the more he moved back, never breaking their gaze even as he was now laying onto his back with the auburn vocalist hovering over him. He could feel Ruki's breath hitting against his parted lips, could feel as he raised a hand to twist his index finger around a flip within his dark tresses before running his slender fingers through it completly, cupping the side of his head. He didn't like when Ruki was this close to him, because it ws only a reminder of why he still felt his heartbeat speed up everytime he was alone with him. Made him feel soft tuggings within his chest and unable to breath properly, a blush always finding a way to his cheeks whenever Ruki was so...

The move was swift and had taken Ruki completly by surprise: it seemed that now was his turn to be the one laying upon his back with Kai hovering over him, the palms of his hands resting on either side of his head. Their lips were so close yet so far, their breath mangling as they breathed through parted lips. "Yuutaka..."

"Don't." Was the only word that passed through Kai's lips, eyes narrowed and pleading desperatly, but it seemed Ruki wasn't taking no for an answer tonight.

"Listen to me, would you? You're being-"

"What? Unfair, Taka? Is that what I'm being?" Kai sighed softly before giving a bitter laugh. "You have nothing else to tell me, remember? You made that decision six months ago." A whisper. A whisper that caused Ruki to purse his lips tightly and turn his head, finally breaking the gaze they had held up until now. That same whisper had made him lose his footing and sink knee deep within the water he was treading. Loseing all hope with every take of breathe as he felt slightly calloused slender fingers grasp him by his chin, turning his head so that he was looking up at the drummer once more whom held nothing but an melancholic smile upon his lips. A smile he wasn't use to seeing the older man smile. He was sure all hope had abandoned him tonight as he felt Kai release his hold onto his chin only to slowly get up and off of him, but determination had gripped Ruki tightly. You could say that it was down right stubborness that he refused to give up until he was able to say what has been on his chest for the past few months; with said determination Ruki had reached out instantly with his right hand and wrapped his fingers around the necklace Kai wore around his neck, his fignertips wrapping slightly within the inside of a silver ring that was dangling from the silver chain. Holding firmly onto it to prevent Kai from making any sudden motion he lifted himself upward half way to press his full lips against Kai's in demanding kiss. A kiss that solely wanted nothing more but for the other to react besides tense within his grasp. But Kai did reply with just as much demand, simple needing and want.

This was what Kai was afraid of: Temptation. Ruki was nothing but a sinful temptation with legs, and having the smaller man this close and being able to touch again if only for a moment - things could not be able. Actions could not be helped as Ruki switched their positions once more so he was straddling the drummer, his hand stilled wrapped around the ring that was held by a silver chain around the drummer's neck oh so tightly, Kai's hands grasping firmly at his hips. Ruki was the first to pull back with redened, moist lips, staring deeply at the man that fought so hard to regain sences completly.

"I love you." Ruki whispered against his lips in soft english, his free hand moving to cup Kai's cheek and rub the pad of his thumb over the slowly blushing flesh. It took Kai a moment to piece together what he said and once he did, he shook his head furiously, reclosing his eyes .

"Don't play with my emotions, Taka. I --"

"I'm not playing with anything - I mean it, Yuu. I'm in love with you. I've always have been," Ruki tugged gently at the ring that was laced in the silver chain, "And I think you still feel the same, as well; you would have gotten rid of this a long time ago." He could feel the trembling within Kai's hands, watching as he lowered his head with a shaky breath. The ring had been nothing but a birthday gift Ruki had got for the drummer: somewhat like that of a promise ring, one would say. He loved Kai, more than anyone would ever know, yet when it came to saying vocally how much, he truely couldn't answer; love is a strong and scary thing to one who experiences it and it seemed Ruki had become victim to latter issue. He wasn't ready to cross that line only out of fear - hurting Kai within the process.

"Aishiteru yo," Ruki repeated as he tilted Kai's head so that he could press feathery kisses along his cheek, only to whisper his said words again within his ear and down the trail of kisses he left onto the side of his neck.

"Tell me," Kai whispered, raising his hand to tilt Ruki's chin upward so that their eyes locked once more, searching those deep brown eyes he had grown to love no matter what color they took on from the many contacts Ruki was known to wear. "Tell me again."

"Aishiteru yo, Yuutaka." Ruki said confidently, full of reassurance and truth. And that was all Kai ever needed . To hear those three, postively sure, words spill from those full lips of the vocalist. Without any moment of thought did he press his lips against Ruki's within a soft, tender kiss as he closed his eyes, tear after tear of happiness slipping past his closed eyelids and making trails down his cheeks while Ruki's hands moved to rest onto his shoulders.

My best birthday wish that has come true so far, Taka, Kai thought while threading his slightly calloused fingers within the silky strands of auburn locks as Ruki pushed him down gently so he was resting onto his back. The petite vocalist soon laying atop of him and breaking their kiss to nuzzle his face within the crook of his neck, his free hand coming upward to rest upon the small of Ruki's back.

Is to finally hear you say "I Love You"....

At that moment, Kai could feel deep within his heart that maybe, just maybe, this was a start of a new beginning....
