Craziest experience so far...
About a week ago, Adam and I went to Campus Martius for a lil skate...well it turned into just me skating (and having the whole rink to myself), but it was fun. We got VERY cold,especially adam, considering he was just watching me, so i decided it was time for a lil hot cocoa break!
We were sitting there in the Au Pain coffee shop in campus martius when out of the blue i see this lady out of the corner of my eye. She starts speaking french to me, I reply back in french, thinking she was a tourist and needed some help. She asked me how i was, what my name was, and her french was really good. Then she started speaking in english out of the blue, and asked if i was an angel...I said far from it, but i try my hardest to be, and she said well would you be an angel and buy me a cup of coffee, I said i couldn't as i only had a dollar left in my pocket (which was true)! She said that would suffice, so i gave her my last dollar.
Meanwhile, Adam was standing there so confused...he asked if i knew this lady, and i said no...We then had quite a meaningful descussion, and i think he was proud of my decision. I know there are a lot of people who dont give money to beggars, because they think it goes straight to alcohol, and maybe it does. But you never know how they got there, and why they are there! I mean take for instance, my french speaking lady. Now i know there are a lot of you who took a foreign language during school, and know how hard it is to do so. This lady at one point in her life must have been educated somewhere, because there is no way on earth you can just pick a language up, and i mean this ladies accent was beautiful, much much better than anyones accent in the french class i took last year! She would have blown that class away!
However, when leaving campus martius, i still was torn with my decision to give her the money...it might have been the overwhelming feeling of having done something good, but i felt like crying. I mean adam had a good point...tho a jaded one...when he said "who cares what they do with their money, i mean they earned it fair and square right?" Its true...i mean we may have earned our money, yet again we may have not, and we still spend it on stupid things right, if they earned their money begging, they still earned it, why is it any different from us? I dunno....so that was my crazy story...and yet a week later its still on my mind...the way she eliquently begged...ha
