Yuletide squee, reading, movies (with Encanto and Spider-Man), and Hugo results

Dec 25, 2021 16:05

I woke up Yuletide morning to not one but TWO absolutely wonderful fics, in two different fandoms (both fandoms that I've not gotten Yuletide fic for before) -- a lovely epistolary post-canon fic for The Lady Astronaut series seamlessly melding multiple prompts of mine and hitting just the right character notes with my requested asshole Stetson ( Read more... )

Haven't seen Spider-Man: No Way Home yet. Am not looking at those spoilers. I just wanted to say I am sooo happy that The Old Guard won Dramatic Long Form! It is so, so good!! I'm so glad they will be doing a sequel!

I still need to watch The Old Guard at some point -- everything I've seen about it suggests I'll enjoy it! :)

There are some Netflix things I'm hoping to get to this break, including The Old Guard but also season 2 of The Witcher, Hawkeye, and Shang-Chi. We'll see how much of that actually ends up happening, LOL -- the break is going by faster than I'd expected...

I have yet to see Spiderman, but hope to before break is over

Single All the Way was cute, but that's all it was, cute ;)

Spider-Man was a lot of fun! And while I would definitely have preferred to see it in theaters without worrying about Omicron, I'm still glad we went to see it in a theater with other people -- it was a fun communal experience. So hope you get to see it also.

Yep. I mean, it made no pretense of being Art, and it was cute and heartwarming, which I guess is all that can be reasonably required of a Christmas romcom.

Not much to read for me here as I didn't want to read the movies spoilers. *lol*
I still want to see both - just don't know when.
Hopefully I'll still make it to the cinema.
(I usually go with Saskia but she can't at the moment as she's over 6 months after her 2nd vaccination and only has the booster on the 4th.)

I hope you enjoy them both when you are able to watch them! (L and I were boostered but not yet 2 weeks after the booster dose, so I'm not sure how protected we were -- hopefully enough that this won't be a decision we regret... Though, I dunno, maybe at this point getting it is inevitable and it's just optimizing your chances for not having a severe case...)

I'm the opposite of you in that I've never seen any of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies but saw both of the Andrew Garfield ones! I do kind of feel like I should watch the older ones now. I really enjoyed the multiple Spider-Men together too. But I definitely also like Tom Holland's version the best.

But I don't really buy Aunt Mae's perspective that it was Peter's responsibility to help them, that he couldn't just send them homeYeah, I'm with you there. It was convenient that all their problems were ones that Peter and friends could fix, but I don't see how it was his responsibility. And I don't love the amnesia ending either--for one thing, there are so many logistical questions about how it works! And also, Peter's relationships with MJ and Ned and various other Avengers were part of what I like about his movies, so it's not that fun to take that away... just kind of a bummer ending ( ... )

Yeah, this Spider-Man movie was the first thing to make me interested in watching the Andrew Garfield ones properly :)

Yeah, I don't really get how it makes sense either... People are aware of Spider-Man existing but everyone forgetting it's Peter Parker would make sense to me. But everyone literally forgetting Peter Parker was a person who existed? How is that a side effect? But whatever. And did it, like, actually rewrite reality so that, e.g. MJ and Ned never got the original "in light of current controversy we can't consider you" letters from MIT and just got in from the start? It just makes no sense.

And also, Peter's relationships with MJ and Ned and various other Avengers were part of what I like about his movies, so it's not that fun to take that away... just kind of a bummer ending.Exactly! I assume it's going to be pretty temporary -- the whole point on having him in the MCU is that he can be part of ( ... )
