* How I entered that fandom It was mid-2008, and I had just discovered Fancast via The Dresden Files (it had the show up for streaming). Once I finished watching the Dresen Files, I noticed that Fancast also had Firefly streaming. I'd heard about it for years and decided to give it a shot. Like a week later, I had watched the whole thing twice, watched Serenity-the-movie, and all the outtakes and interviews and whatever else I could find on YouTube. It was pretty insane, and the most abrupt descent into fandom I've ever had.
* Favorite character Jayne. I like most of the characters -- my other favorites are Simon, Book, and Zoe -- but Jayne surprised me by rising to the top on rewatch.
* Least favorite character Mal, Inara, and River are the three I'm least interested in, and of those three, I would probably say Inara is my least favorite. I don't dislike her at all (and I like watching her because she's super pretty), but I'm the least interested in her arc and her relationships with the others.
* First character I fell in love with Simon. It's still a very near thing between him and Jayne for me, but Simon was efinitely my favorite on my first watch-through.
* The character who is the most like me Probably Zoe.
* OTP(s) Canonically Zoe/Wash. Non-canonically, Mal/Jayne and Jayne/Kaylee.
* Favorite friendship/family relationship The unlikely friendship between Jayne and Book is my favorite, but I also like Mal and Zoe's relationship, and Wash and Kaylee's friendship is also very cute.
* Favorite quote So many great ones! I regularly make references to "Some people juggle geese" and "Well, I'm alright" and the special hell. One of my favorites, though, is Simon's I am very smart speech, which was the point at which I fell in love with him as a character and the show.
* Favorite location Serenity, of course.
* Favorite scene (or episode, or book) "Jaynestown" is my favorite episode, but "Our Mrs Reynolds" is also a very close contender, with "Ariel" a solid third.
* Favorite thing about the fandom That it kept going and actually managed to bring forth a movie. That's pretty incredible, even if I missed the heyday of the Browncoats.
* Unpopular opinion I guess not being a fan of Mal/Inara, or even either character on their own, particularly.
* Something I would change about the canon Well, let's just say that I refuse to consider Serenity-the-movie canon.
* Random thought about this canon After watching the show finally, suddenly ALL THESE REFERENCES and quotes I' been hearing for years slotted into place. It was a very singular experience!

Ha ha, yes! There are so many quotable quotes, the more so than any other show I've seen, it shapes the fandom lingo.

Yeah, that's my impression as well! I would guess part of it is just Joss Whedon being super quotable, but part must also be something about the timing of when it hit, vs the emergence of internet fandom?
Also, your icon is great, and amazingly fitting for this comment!

Quite possible.
