Snowflake days 12-13 (indluding a fannish meme)

Day 12: In your own space, create your own challenge.

I've tried this with year-round challenges before, and, except for the Community Souced Reading Bingo, which was a lot of fun, that seems too large scale. So I think this time around Iwant to try something immediate, like a meme. Through the confluence of talking about universe fursions with

Hee!

Assuming the prompt is for MCU:

OK, my immediate thought was some kind of weasel for Loki, and, like, it's maybe facile, but I really can't think of anything better. They're high energy playful assholes, good at slipping into and out of tricky situations, like, physically. I don't know enough about different weasels to identify his daemon definitively based on behavior, but I ruled out otters because they seem too social for him. Beyond that, some kind of northern weasel seems best -- maybe a stoat (ermine)? They do look fairly regal, in that weaselly way... That seems like a good fit. (The northernmost weasels are actually wolverines, but that's too massive and overtly belligerent for MCU Loki, I think.) And yeah, I basically gave him Lyra's daemon, give or take some subspecies differences, but it just seems to fit!

(Googling around, it seems like people want to give Loki cat daemons. Sorry, but weasel!)

If you'd asked me prior to Thor: Ragnarok, I would've totally said that Thor's daemon would be some kind big, good-natured dog -- a good help in a fight, but happier chasing sticks. But he does seem to be maturing into an actual king, and I could see a daemon can be both playful to match his younger self and has the gravitas for his present/future role (and can maybe even guide him along from the former to the latter). So how about a wolf instead of a dog?

(And for the record, if the actual Norse mythology Loki had a daemon, it would be a crow. Very smart and assholish, but with a somewhat different emphasis between the two, plus it goes well with Odin's ravens. Anyway!)

Oh yes, MCU for sure.

Agreed on Loki. Stoat/ermine (both names for the same animal, depending on the season/coat color!) fits for that reason, too. He's a shapeshifter, and stoat/ermine is so different between seasons, it gets two different names.

Yeah, I could see a wolf for Thor, too... Strong family ties, still can play around, but more serious than a big goofy dog.

Good choices!

Ooh, hey, I hadn't thought of that aspect, but it fits and I like it! Let's pretend I did that on purpose :D

Also I have to share. I posed the Loki daemon question to friends in chat, and after dismissing chameleon and snake as too on the nose, cyanshadow mentioned sex-changing fish, which led me to a priceless mental image of Loki with his clownfish daemon he has to carry around in a little bowl. XD

Haaaa. Yeah, didn't people with fish/seal/whale daemons have to become sailors or something? I suppose a bowl would work as well!
