although I know you use your own ...This. XD But aww, thank you for the offer. :)
I don't think I've read anything by Alice Miller -- what was the problem there? She's a Renowned PsychologistTM. Her general shtick is "We're shaped by our earliest experiences and relations with our parents", and analyzing dictators and other historical figures this way. Which, okay, is an idea I can get behind, and definitely a worthy area of research. Never too much of explaining how monsters become monsters and others become what they become. But. Her realization of this. Holy crap, her realization... Did you know why Ceauşescu had a very energetic style of waving to the crowds? :3 He was 'clearing the view' because fears like insects plagued the windshield more and more. ... Watching this gesture I sometimes got an impression of someone trying to do away with memories, erase facts. ... And the hand risen still in greeting reminded me the right hand of an adult, just before striking a child. Also Hitler's 'heil' undeniably has the same source. No kidding, this is an exact quote. My translation of the Polish translation, but still. Another quotes: It's telling that no 'supporting witness' shown up in the childhood of such mass murderers like Hitler, Stalin or Mao. Supporting witness is her term for a person who makes the child aware of thier situation and is their alternative life model and/or friend. Here she does a classic inventing facts fitting the theory and in turn 'proving' the theory by invented facts - how can she possibly and with absolute certainty know there was no such person? The "God exists, because the Bible says so, and Bible is right because it's inspired by God" style of reasoning. ...full hundred percent of abused children were unwanted children. It knows what it lacks, cannot forget it and waits for filling this gap. ... fights against the lie with an amazing determination and wisdom ... tirelessly tries to lead us toward our truth. The 'it' in question is... human body, in Millerverse having some own extra personality, apparently. :) And this personality is almighty - germs, pollution, parasites, genetical errors and injures don't exist; the sole cause of all ilnesses is abused subconscious and relations with toxic parents. She goes on and on like this, ad nauseam, it reads like some New Age mumbo jumbo. It's not like it was 100% dismissable bullshit, quite the contrary, she had some good observations (the Miraculous Power of ForgivenessTM being much overrated) and hypotheses (Biblical Book of Jeremiah interpreted as the relation between an abusive parent-God and a child brainwashed into penitence after mutiny), but overall it was very unsubstantiated, ridiculously worded and definitely undeserving of the name of a scientific work. Books such like these have a damn duty to be 120% wrapped in cold proofs, and this is where Miller totally failed. She thought her Holy Conviction is enough. Nope, science doesn't work like this, and I'm not interested in psychology trying to work like religion instead science.
I can't fault anyone for hating that experience, while I really respected it. Ah yes, that's closer to "well done, but not 'mine' ". Sort of like deliberately ugly art.
there are people who really wanted/needed/responded to the antiseptic world of 'Planet', so possibly that's also not a "waste", though it definitely feels like that to me! Yup, I'm in this exact position on this exact book with one friend of mine. :) And she actually agrees is lacked conflict, but still likes it for the feel-good.

Thank you for the Alice Miller download. Wow, what a lot of BS obscuring some potentially genuinely interesting insights!
