51. Ursula Vernon, Giant Trouble (Hamster Princess 4) -- these are still super cute! In this one, Harriet takes on "Jack and the Beanstalk". The humour in this one, a lot of which had to do with the giant (a giant lop hare :D) having really stinky feet, but, OK, target audience. (
More, with mild spoilers, I guess? )
Haha, that's a fair summary of my primary feelings, but yeah, there's a bit more. So, fun fact, when I was in high school, I was also very proud of having no discernible Russian accent (I do have a slight accent still, but one that most people don't hear, and the rest place as a regional accent or personal way of speaking or generically from-somewhere-else accent; I've only ever had one person both pick up on the accent and figure out where it was from, and he knew my last name and had been in the military, so maybe he was trained in counterintelligence or something, IDK) -- anyway, proud of not having an accent / "passing", and was pleased that my last name didn't have an ending that immediately jump out as Russian, and did not hang out with the other Russian kids in my school. But the reason I didn't was that they were into partying and other such things that were really boring to me. In fact, they were probably more like Anya in some ways (than like Dima, I mean), except that they didn't need to hide the Russian-ness. (My two closest friends at the time, R and later also M, were still Russian, of course, but they were also not this kind of Russian. Although, interestingly enough, we all acquired more Russian friends as we got older,
Anyway, all that said, I do feel like my reasons were more being "not like other girls Russians" (and obviously here by "Russians" I mean "Soviet expats", as most of them were ethnically Jewish and as likely to be from the other republics as from Russia itself), rather than being FOBby. Which probably has a lot to do with the fact that my schools were full of immigrants, and children of immigrants, from cultures that place a lot of value on continuity, so being an immigrant never really stood out.
I'm quite sure that the experience in some place other than San Francisco would've been different, and I'm trying to make allowances for that with Anya, but not entirely succeeding, I think.
And I'd definitely be curious to know what your_insomnia says about it!
I felt it was laconic and very clear in the way in employed the visuals,
It was! I mean, I thought so too, to the best of my ability to discern. It just apparently isn't what works for me best in GNs, and I need BKV's magic touch or something XD
And funfact: I was 110% sure Siobhan was a dude friend
Oh, yes, me too! I forgot to mention that, but I started out being absolutely convinced Siobhan was a dude (even though I know that Siobhan is a female name / all the Siobhans I know of are female). Apparently there's hairclips in her hair or something? But between the fact that she was wearing pants when all the other girls were wearing skirts, the body build, the hair, and the way she was acting, I was still thinking Siobhan was a guy with a feminine name, or trans, or something.
I am disappoint with your restraint on everything lord Azriel. I expected something along the levels of I LOVE CAPTAIN AZARCON and some other charas I suppose
:P I probably was like that in the first trilogy days. Fortunately those times are lost to the internet.
And you SHOULD watch Logan! It was very good, especially the young actress, and it'll dovetail with your Deadpool binge, maybe? (It's obviously a VERY different movie from Deadpool. But D2 keeps making fun of it.)
Nora being babyfied was part of the "let's give him as generic as possible a family" motion and I am disappointed as well.
Yeah, those were my thoughts a well. Why the random cooking? Why the coming out support fail? (One highlight of movie Nora: the Christmas scene when they're opening presents? Her snowflake pajamas she's wearing are pajamas I have, and it was SUPER WEIRD looking at her in that scene! XD)
I so hope the Leah movie gets made! Like, they could continue on with the same cast and I would feel just fine, because Simon in 'Leah' is pretty ridiculous, and I wouldn't feel sorry for this non-Nick, and Bram mostly would have to stand around and smile adorably anyway, and he's good at that.

I'll try to ping Y to tempt her into reading this comic for science! We need more representative data :D
I was so stunned by Siobhan thing that I spend a good half hour listening to how to pronounce Irish names XD Can't say I remember anything except Siobhan = shee-van? I think? I'm so inadequate at this!

Guilty as charged, I'm afraid! (Teenage!me had a lot of Ideas.)
Siobhan = shee-van?
I think so too... I don't actually know any Siobhans, so have never heard it pronounced live.
But I do work with two Niamhs (= neeve, like in the Raven Boys), and there was also an Irish dude I worked with for years who I was convinced was a woman, because his name was Dara. (Which is to say, we spent years exchanging emails, and then he called me up one day, and I couldn't figure out who this was, because the voice was clearly masculine and it just didn't compute. XD)
