There is a new Vorkosiverse novella coming! About Ekaterin -- "The Flowers of Vashnoi". Which, on the one hand, is not what I most wan to see in this universe (that would be Galeni, Gregor, and Ivan dealing with fatherhood please!), but I am still delighted by the fact of more Vorkosiverse.

I will definitely write about Three Billboards if I watch it!

but back then he was incredibly hot IMO XD. Also Nimoy wasn't so bad looking either.

Haha! I'm OK with young William Shatner's looks as long as I don't have to watch him act :) But the weird thing is that I find Chris Pine in Kirk mode way hotter than Chris Pine in any other role (or out of character), even though he looks a LOT like Shatner in that role. What makes the difference, I don't know!

I do like Nimoy, though, no argument there :)

I confess I haven't watched ANY Trek beyond the reboot movies, so all I know is through fannish osmosis and, like, Tumblr gifs. It's one of those canons too sprawling and daunting for me to get into at this late date, like Doctor Who or superhero comics... :P

I think some people have a hard time identifying it as Russian as it doesn't sound like a stereotypical Russian accent. It's always cute when random strangers tell her "you have such a pretty voice! Is your accent French?" lol. No one has ever guessed Russian.

My mother generally doesn't get Russian guesses either -- often Spanish ('cos California mostly, I think), but occasionally also French or German. I think those two are because she just gives off a generic "European" vibe, and her accent is light enough that people expecting a Hollywood parody of a Russian accent don't think it can be that.

Yeah I never really stopped to consider which of the new cast I like better compared to the old cast. I find Chris Pine very cute, and his acting better so yeah I find him better too. Also Anton Yelchin I like a lot more than Walter Koenig. I don't have much of an opinion on the rest of the cast. Too hard to say. I like Nimoy better than Quinto, but maybe that's because Nimoy is probably my favorite actor of them all (original franchise and reboot only, not getting into the other series), so I have a bias. I wouldn't recommend the series myself, but some of the old Star Trek movies are good. I found 2,3, 4, and 6 to be good. 1 was pretty awful, and my husband just said to skip 5 all together, so I just took his word. Also Shatner directed that one lol. Just those movies alone aren't too daunting, you may like them!

Neat that your mom doesn't have a streotypical Russian accent either! My mom is the only Russian I know that doesn't have what I'd consider a typical accent, but then again, I really do not know that many Russians/Russian speakers lol.

I definitely like Chris Pine better than Shatner and Nimoy better than Quinto -- those are the easy ones for me. Chekov is a funny case, because Walter Koenig is forever Alfred Bester from Babylon 5 to me (a VERY different character!), so I don't even really think of them in the same context, like, ever.

Beyond that, I don't really know. I haven't got enough of a feel for TOS Bones or Scotty, but I like the actors playing them in the reboot a lot, from other stuff, so I think they would win for me even if I were to become more familiar with the originators of the role.

And I have no strong feelings on either George Takei or John Cho, but like them both about equally, I guess? And same for Nichelle Nichols and Zoe Saldana, I guess. Although both Nichelle Nichols and George Takei have been impressive in their beyond-acting lives later on, of course, and the younger actors haven't really had that chance yet.

Thanks for the Star Trek movie rundown! Especially the Shatner warning for #5, lol! I shall have to keep it all in mind :)

You know we've been having this conversation ,I remembered I never saw "Beyond". Since I'm home and get access to my parents' fancy Xfinity setup I thought that should be the next movie I watch here. Since the entire star wars franchise and xmen franchise is available for free, i thought I should have the same luck with "Beyond", esp. Since it's 2 years old now. Nope XD. Can't even rent it. Might try to find a redbox somewhere around here.

Anyway, since you mentioned Takei that makes me think of Cho. I actually think his incredible talent is being wasted in his role as Sulu. His character is so incredibly boring... I heard something about them making him gay in Beyond. I hope this is a sign of character development and that they're gunna do something better with his character in Beyond and beyond.

Oh, that's a pity that you can't track down Beyond -- I thought it was actually pretty good (after a thoroughly disappointing Into Darkness or whatever the hell movie 2 is called).

Sulu is revealed to be gay in it, yes -- or at least he has a family with a guy -- but tbh I don't remember anything he specifically did in that one... I remember Kirk, and I remember Scotty, and there's a new character introduced who is pretty great (I'm hoping she shows up in any sequels), but if Sulu/John Cho had more to do than in the first two movies, I didn't notice...
