Day 8: In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much. The last time I did this challenge (which I found rather challenging even then, because how does one narrow it down to a single piece of canon!) I went with "favorite

I think either you've mentioned it or I was conflating you with lunasariel in this regard (possibly both!)
But, yeah, much as LotR is One True Fandom for me, I so do not blame anyone for getting stuck in the early chapters -- it took me something like six months to get to the Council of Elrond, and only after the Nine Walkers set out did I start racing through the book. So I can definitely see getting stuck there until the movie provided a push / encouragement.
(I may also be one of the only people who is kind of disappointed that Tom Bombadil got cut out of the movies. XD)
Aww! I think it was probably for the best in terms of, like, mainstream audience appreciation, but I do wish he'd made it to the Extended Edition :)
I also really like the rentrement as you have it here, being a clear echo but not an exact repetition
I'm glad to hear it! (For a person who doesn't like poetry with a lot of repetition in it, I sure seem to be writing a lot of it lately... XP)

Hahaha. :D Yes, I agree -- it was a bit of a side wander that tbh I don't even remember anymore whether it had any impact on the plot at all or was just fun, so I definitely don't blame Peter Jackson for cutting it.
They added so much else back in for the Extended Editions, though, that surely another 5 minutes wouldn't have hurt? :D
Oh, lol, that reminds me -- when the third Hobbit movie came out a few years ago, my family went to see it in theaters as our ~Christmas/New Years nerd movie (knowing it would be terrible, but at that point it was tradition. :'D).
Afterwards, I think I was the one who commented that watching that mess had put me in the mood to re-watch the original trilogy, as something that was equally pretty and grand-looking but, y'know, better. :'D And my family decided that sounded like a fine idea, so we went out and acquired the Extended Editions, and sat down and watched them over the next 3-4 nights. :D (I think we split one of them across two nights because we started a bit too late?)
I was pretty impressed that the extended content was mostly integrated well enough that I couldn't really tell the difference between content I didn't remember because it had been years since I'd last seen the movies, and content I didn't remember because I'd never seen it before. :)

Hahahaa. :D Well, in at least a few cases (the on-hold poem and the lice poem, that I can remember in particular) I think the repetition added a certain necessary level of hmmmm ... dragging horribleness? :D that they just wouldn't have been right without.
I hope you have more inspiration for less repetitious poems in the future, though. :D

Heh, I think I had basically the same experience :D
And, aww, I'm very pleased and gratified that you remember the on-hold and lice poems! :D (and agree that the repetition actually fit those best :))
