Reading roundup and ship meme

Sep 28, 2017 11:07

I added a couple of folks in the last several weeks, on LJ and DW, and realized I never actually linked to my intro post from DW, so let me do that now (for anyone who's interested; it's fairly long and definitely not anything that people ~need~ to know): LJ/DW, since it's a locked post.

Ship that has broken my heart is Fitz/Fool from Elderling Saga.
Fuck you, Robin Hobb! Why do you hate poor Fool this much?! Honestly, s/he deserves so much better...

Speaking of love triangles, I've seen such things IRL and they almost always end up badly, if that's a true love triangle we are talking about.

I didn't get to the Fitz & the Fool trilogy itself -- I sort of lost steam with the Elderlings around the middle of Liveship Traders -- but I'm sorry to hear that the Fool doesn't get a happy ending of some sort. S/he was one of the more interesting characters in the books I did read, for sure!

I'm not sure I've seen a full blown love triangle IRL, but it absolutely seems like something that would sour all relationships involved most likely. And therefore isn't something I wish on characters I like, either. And if they're not characters I like, then it's just a boring distraction.

Indeed. Okay, I know that the ending is logical in itself but still it's not fair. Killing Fool would be more honest. Now one of my friends says that Hobb made one more trilogy about them. But I can't read it. I mean, I'm one of those people who never cry over the book but these books were way too much even for me. I prefer to think that Fool went over seas to his/hers homeland and found happiness with person other than Fitz.

Couldn't agree more.

Yes, my understanding is there's a Fitz and the Fool trilogy (starting with Fool's Assassin, I think?) set after the Tawny Man trilogy (neither of which I've read, but I have several flisters who've kept up with the series). The third book (Assassin's Fate) just came out this year, but I don't know where it leaves things...

Well, I kinda know how it ends in the very last book but eh...Ending in Tawny man trilogy was better. In my opinion, that is.

Gotcha!

(I had vague plans to catch up on the Robin Hobb books, but the more time passes, the more I accept that it probably won't happen.)

Well, one person already told me how the very last trilogy ends.
So what comes about ending in the Assassin's fate - I was weirded out. Maybe it will make more sense if/when i read it. But I don't think I want... Not now, at least. *is in books up to her ears*

Oh, you didn't like how the story ended? I cried sooooo much but for me it was the perfect ending!

edit: ooops sorry, should have read the other comments first, I see you haven't read the last trilogy. I thought you were talking about that. No more from me then, in case you decide to read it after all!

For me it was just how it had to end, anything else would have not made much sense, at least to me, so I'm happy to have closure now!

I was watching my flist's reactions when Assassin's Fate was just coming out. It did seem like people mostly were happy with how Hobb wrapped things up.

Yes, all my friends who are also quite into Fitz/Fool had similar feelings to me. Super sad, but happy about the closure. I thought it was the perfect ending, after the Tawny Man trilogy left me rather unsatisfied, like there should be something more, so when I heard that there would be one last trilogy I was so thrilled and it was so worth it!

I love Hobb's books, I've read all of the books set in that world!
