Additional fannishness

In squeeful fannish news: Vallista has a publication date! September according to Brust, Amazon has mid-October, but either way, it's a real book really coming out this year, woo! (And the Paarfi book, "The Baron of Magister Valley" is still under submission. Which is less squeeful, but at least I now know the full title. Is that... a Count of ( Read more... )

That is swanky!

But, yeah, a bit far... Although not that hard to get to my house from, honestly -- if you walk over to Market and go underground (MUNI and BART stations are together that part of the line, though BART's on a deeper level) and catch an L Taraval outbound, it's ~30 min from there to my house, once you're on the L. (Remember, SF is a teeny, tiny city compared to LA, and the traffic also tends not to be too bad except rush hour, although it is definitely worse downtown).

As for Uber, I haven't taken it in the City, but a friend of mine says Uber Pool (or whatever it's called, the one where it could make other stops to pick up/drop off) is only $3-5 from that part of town, and usually pretty fast despite the potential for extra stops.

Anyway, very much hope it will work out to meet up again! Since it sounds like you have most of the day Friday, even with getting to/from places, hopefully it will. (If I end up having to be in Santa Clara on Friday instead, I'll let you know, and also see if there's any way I could come home earlier. It's possible I could catch an early ride back with B, for example. That's why I can't offer to pick you up at SFO or Daly City BART, btw, even though I'd like to -- B will be back in school and will have the car.)

I can try going that way, if you give me specific instructions (like what stop to get off). I'd have to get back with enough time to shower (and building in getting lost time because I have a special kind of stupidity when it comes to direction, although I do get places...in the end lol). However, you'll be busy with meetings in the afternoon so that sounds okay. Conceptually, what time frame would you be free? I don't want to show up on your doorstep early.

It's easy enough to get to my house, I think, because Market Street is easy to find (and I say this as a very directionally challenged person myself!) and the MUNI stations are marked. I'll send you a PM with more details :)

As for time -- probably I should be free by 11-11:30, but will keep you updated on my meetings and stuff. And if you find yourself running early, there are things along the L Taraval line you could duck into to wait in the warmth, like the coffee shop that was sadly closed the other week. (There's also a cozy branch library I would normally recommend, but sadly it only opens at 1 p.m. on Fridays.)

Okay, I just got up and checked my email and just to give you the heads up, my sister just emailed me that plans have changed for Friday and that the family is supposed to get together for pictures before we go to dinner and we're supposed to do our hair or something. However, she has been emailing me every day with DRAMA OMG DRAMA DRAMA YOU MUST DO THIS OR THE WEDDING IS RUINED and then I talk to my dad and he's just like um, no. So I'll talk to my dad after class this morning as it's only commuters who are up this early lol. Anyway, I'll comment again this afternoon when I get back as to whether I still get a free day Friday or if I actually have to appear in the wedding festivities.

Thank you for the heads-up! Just keep me posted as the situation develops :) Definitely hope we can still meet up, but if you're needed for family stuff, obviously that takes precedence. And sorry that you're having to deal with the DRAMA!

Okay, so I finally just talked with my dad...now, while I'm not needed for all the hair and photo stuff, there IS a luncheon which basically ruins the day just by being smack in the middle of it. So I'm taking the shuttle to the hotel (presumably getting there at 10-10:30ish. Luncheon thing is noon to 2:30 or 3. Then our dinner reservations are for 6 but we're walking there so have to leave around 5:45. And each of these things need buffer time because I don't want to set off WWIII, as previously mentioned. So as of now, looks like our plans are off. If anything changes tomorrow I'll let you know and if you're still free we'll resurrect our plans. Ugh, sorry! :(

Gotcha. Yeah, looks like there won't be time to meet then, which is a bummer. But I hope the luncheon and dinner are fun, or at least swanky and tasty :)

If something does change, let me know! It looks like I should be working from home on Friday, so if something does change, I should hopefully be available.

Oh, right -- if it turns out that your luncheon ends early (I realize that's pretty unlikely) and you feel like you have time to swing by in the afternoon, let me know that, too. If the luncheon is somewhere on Market/where you're on a MUNI line, it should take about 30 min to get to my house, so we might have time to hang out a bit, even with margins / needing to change for dinner. But if you'd rather not try to squeeze in an extra thing between obligations, that's totally fine, too!

I don't have any details yet but if it does get out early (or something changes last minute) and I have a chuck of free time I'll text you and again, if you're busy just lmk but if you are free for a bit lmk as well! Thanks for being flexible!
