December ramble meme, day 3: trading places with a character

Dec 03, 2014 08:57

So, um. Today was going to be a long (certainly) insightful (possibly?) ramble on travel, but then this happened:

sysann: *prompts* Is there any character you'd like to switch places with for a week (or longer)? Why or why not? And if you do - who?
hamsterwoman: The answer to the switching places with a character is almost certainly "No", which makes for a not very ( Read more... )

Wow, I absolutely love it, and I only know about five of the characters. :D --- Really, really well done. Who'd have thought that silly prompts can have such an interesting effect?

Hee, thank you! :D Actually, I should really thank you for the prompt and for the way you phrased the idea above, because that just kicked something off. I think this is the only thing I've written this year (possibly in longer than that), and it was great fun and a neat little exercise -- so, thank you!

Actually, I know nine, btw. <3 (Dumbledore, Gandalf, Holmes, Peter, Richard, Simon, Uhura, Willow & Xavier.)

Oh you're very welcome. But I was just playing around - you turned it into a beautiful and imaginative poem all by yourself! I really am very happy to see how it turned out though. It was a pleasure to read. - And I'd love to see you write more. :)

Oh, I don't think I realized you knew Swordspoint! That means you are probably another member of the class of people who got to be confused by the Alecs between Nightrunners and Swordspoint XD (I had this experience, having read Swordspoint first, and then the friend who lent me the Nightrunners books read Swordspoint and got to experience it in reverse. It's very disorienting, because they are such, SUCH different characters!)

And aww, thank you! XD

(I tend to go through stages with poems, it was ballads for a while, and then limericks. Maybe another bug will bite me based on this :)

Wow, that's impressive!

Being Jane seems tempting, though, if only to have a few chats with Excidium. ^^

Thank you! :DD

Jane is one of the tempting ones, yes, because DRAGON! (well, and she's personally awesome, too) Hmm, maybe I could trade with her for a week while she was pregnant with Emily and therefore out of the action for a while. I could live with that, I think. But not anything more permanent than that!

I love this (and I know 21 of the 26!).

Thank you! :DD

And, wow, I think you probably win in terms of number of characters you know. (Now I'm wondering about the five you don't... (I'm thinking Buck and Fee are among them?)

Well, I guess technically I know all of them, but the ones I only know through osmosis and not through consuming the canon myself are Chase, Elodin, Fee, Kincaid, and Quentin. (I did read the first Dresden Files book, but I'm pretty sure Kincaid wasn't in it.)

Yep, Kincaid appears in book 5 or so.

Oh, I don't think I realized you'd read the Flora books! *digs up in your goodreads* Ah, the "I am not the right audience" tag :P -- that's about what I thought, which is why I figured you hadn't read it. (I do find the series very charming, and the AU!San Francisco thing appeals to me for bonus reasons.)

Genius! I might trade places with some characters, but not a lot of them. And definitely not Londo Mollari, OMG no.

Haha, thank you! :D

Yeah, Londo was the absolute clearest NO on this list for me. I think there is literally not a single moment of his existence when I would want to be in his shoes. Well, OK, maybe when he's really drunk at that party in S1 and seems to be having fun. But for no more than 10 minutes or so.

This is amazing! Favourite new poem! :D

And I fully agree: I wouldn't want to have any of these characters' problems, but that is part of the reason we love them!

Haha, thank you! :D

Exactly! All the things I would never want to do in a million years are so much fun to read about!
