One of the neatest things about Morrolan, which has nowhere been so clear as here, is that his self-confidence in no way precludes him from admitting ignorance and being willing to learn.I LOVED his absolute - and sometimes hypertrophied - thirst for knowledge. Our boy is a Ravenclaw! In the main series, it kinda fades in the background like every other thing Vlad doesn't give a damn about - Morrolan, albeit extremely skilled, seemed more like a hedonist than a scholar. But my favorite thing - and probably my most favorite Morrolan thing ever - is that while he is so passionate about learning about the Dragaerian culture, the Dragaerian fighting and military strategy, the Dragaerian magic, not once, NOT ONCE is he demeaning toward the Eastern ones (even despite this being written by Paarfi!). Like he often compares the two, reflects upon how different they are but never suggests one is better than the other, nor is ashamed of being Eastern-raised. ( ... )

That book is such a treasure trove for a Morrolan fan! :D I think I have like a quarter of it highlighted for Morrolan quotes XD

and I love your phrasing of "hypertrophied thirst for knowledge", because, yes, that's Morrolan! When Sethra Lavode of all people has to tell you to maybe chill a bit with the sorcery obsession, you know you're being special XD

I think it must be, but I still wonder about how to fit it in with Morrolan and Aliera being close blood relatives. I think it does kind of imply the chaos manipulation gene is recessive, and even then, it's weird that the line would be here. Though I suppose it could have more to do with reincarnation than with biological linkages -- maybe Aliera can do it because she is Kieron's sister reincarnated, and not because she's an e'Kieron. (There is no mention in 500YA, IIRC, of Morrolan's brother or his mother being chaos-benders (hee! :D), but his mother doesn't appear at all except in brief mention, and I don't think we see Molric use sorcery much in general.)
I do subscibe to the theory that the "blood of a goddess" that he got injected with in Taltos is probably to give him the chaos-bending abilities he natively lacks (otherwise what was the point of that whole thing -- there must've been a reason Kiera gave the vial ( ... )
