Here's a question: how did you get get to the point where you could actually PICK HIM UP? Because Blaise... just isn't having it. She's getting better, but I'd like my hands to remain free of puncture wounds, if I could. Lily, I never tried it with. She just wasn't that kind of girl. She was only social to a point and very independent.
I have to admit that it was as much him as us-- we just kept very gently insisting we were in his life and not going away, and providing opportunities to do things/have things that pleased him (finding what motivates your particular ham goes a long way-- for Chimera, everything was about coming out to play, for Yeti, the key to his heart is food and security/hiding), and then he took the next step where he finally decided one day "oh all right, you aren't going to eat me and your attempts to brush me aren't THAT annoying, I will trust you now." It was like flipping a switch, one day he just mellowed out and started letting us pick him up, and now as long as we watch his body language and respect his needs (i.e. don't push him especially if something frightens him) we can more or less do anything with him. It made him more secure in general and he's afraid of the world a lot less now. It's been amazing to watch him grow, but I can only take a bit of credit, most of it was just him getting really brave and being all "oh hey, I have
