Hi everyone, I've been watching this site for awhile now, and have been admiring everyones ham hams and have been learning lots of info from everyone's posts, so I thought I would introduce you all to Alice Ringo, the half pandabear/blackbear hamster. (when we first got her the pet store said she was a boy so she was named 'Ringo' for about a day until we realized he was a she, so we then named her Alice. We kind of have a thing for old rock music ;) )
Alice dosen't like to chew and her teeth grow freakishly fast, so has to go to the vet every month to have her teeth trimmed because neither I or my husband want to hurt our fur baby by mistake when trimming her teeth. When she first started to go they had to gas her because she wasn't really big on people, but now she's more than willing to let them trim her teeth now, and loves pretty much everyone.
Now its a running joke when she comes in for her 'dentist appointment'. The vets have decided that Alice is way too big for a hamster and have started to weigh her when she goes, currently she weighs 5 oz. Shes a very long hamster ( I'm told because of the blackbear/panda mix in her) and she's about the length of a game systm controller now a days.
She will be one years old on February 24th. I wasnt worried about her weight before, but now the vet keeps making a point to let us know she's weighing her, dose anyone here know what a hamster should actually weigh? and is 5oz wayyyy too large for a hamster? She has a three level cage, and a wheel that she uses, she also gets out in her ball for about 30-40 mins every second day, and sometimes climbs about on our bed, so its not like she's unactive or anything, guess I'm just worried about her health..... Anyways here is Alice; The first one was taken August 2011 the second was taken last week after we brushed her out....She really enjoys being combed....
