I've had my syrian for a few weeks now. I'm not new to hamsters but it's been a long time. Last time was when I was little and we used to have a lot of syrians (started with 2 and they had babies). I decided to get a hamster for my house at school because I wanted a pet around. He's got a nice size cage and a big wheel and tubes to run through but I haven't done much handling him. I wasn't afraid the first week I got him, I picked him up once or twice to put him in his ball so I could clean the cage. Last week, my girlfriend scared him and had woken him up and stuck a finger in his face that he bit pretty hard. It drew blood. Since then, I've been a little apprehensive of handling him even though I know if I don't, he will never get used to me and it'll be worse. Any suggestions? I put him on my sleeve the other day and he kept biting at my sleeve. I don't want to be scared of this little guy. I read tips on websites like petting their back when they eat and putting food in your palm so they can climb up and eat it. He tried to take nips at my fingers and I got scared of him.
Any suggestions?
