Well, it's been a month since Moose came home, and I'm happy to report that we've become good friends :) I'm still nervous to lift him out of the aquarium with my bare hands, but he lets me scoop him out and he doesn't mind being held and handled. It took him a little while to teach him the trick where the ham runs from hand to hand, but we're there! Moose gets handled probably about 5 times a week (I work a couple of evenings at a donut shoppe, so I don't handle him when I get home smelling of sugary treats).
Now that we're handling so much more, I'm trying to determine how much out of cage time Moose should get. I'm eventually going to pick up a ball (haven't found one I like- I don't want a hamster motorcycle, or one that's silly colours, or one that glows in the flipping dark! Just a plain clear one!), and I understand that they should only go in there for about 15-20 minutes. How much time do you guys dedicate to out-of-cage handling time? Just exploring pockets, being held and petted, and climbing up arms, and whatnot :)
