(no subject)
dude... today was a nightmare.
i hired my neighbor to take care of my fish and hamster while i was on winter holiday (about three weeks).
indoingso, i left a complete instruction packet super-detailing EVERYTHING that could ever be done to the animals (emergency and everyday-stuff), and even went over the things with her step-by-step in person.
i come home today to discover that louis (3 years old) was COMPLETELY EMACIATED, balding, and that his poor little eyes were glued together.
i immediately checked him for wet-tail (none, thank god)...
...
...
then notice the empty water bottle.
...the chick never filled his tiny little 8oz water bottle the entire three weeks i was gone.
at all.
that serving lasts maybe 5 days at most with him... meaning that he was without water for AT LEAST 15days, if not more.
we rushed to the vet, and she fixed his eyes and gave him some electrolytes.
she said that (aside from the obvious), he seemed in insanely good shape for his age and that he probably has a couple more years in him.
the poor little guy lost over 2/3rds of his body weight.
i feel so freeking bad.
when i asked my neighbor if she noticed anything "wrong", she said "oh well he only came out once the whole time while i was there"...
uh... warning sign?
she admitted to never watering him because "she had no idea and totally forgot."
shes 35 years old... so its not like she has the brain capacity of a child.
urgh im so infuriated.
im not even getting into the condition of my fish tank.
