Big Hamster Central website update in the works! But we need your help first!
Before anyone reads this I first want to mention that the fallowing post was okayed by the community leader Bonnie. She has given me permission to advertise for Hamster Central. If anyone here considers this spamming then please just pass by this post and do not read what is under the cut.

A while back I believe I have posted a few times about Hamster Central here in the community when it first got started. You may or may have not noticed the link on this community’s info page for Hamster Central that bonnie so kindly added. For those of you who have not heard of the Hamster Central (HC) website here is a little background.
I founded the HC website some months back to give people a well put together and informative site about hamsters. It covers many areas such as care, breeding, ailments, different hamster species, hamstery info, housing, feeding all those basics, as well as breeder listings, articles of different kinds in relation to hamsters, as well as a forum to anyone who chooses to register (for free) and share their hammy experiences.
The forum in particular has grown considerably fast over the short amount of time that HC has been running. Our users have posted a total of 4620 articles and We have 136 registered users as of this posting. And it’s growing daily. We have recently added a monthly hamster photo contest on the forum as well!
Although HC is doing well and growing I want to make the site even better! Right now the site is run on simple CSS and HTML language. For those of you who don’t know much about computer languages I can tell you that managing a site on HTML can become messy, especially with so many HTML docs to manage. Therefore I hope to upgrade my hosting service to support a new language PHP and MYQL. This would make managing the site easier for me as the administrator.
I had a lovely conversation with my wonderful husband Tom. I was telling him how I’m having such a great time with Hamster Central, both with my forum members, my moderators and the development of the HC website! I told him there are many new things I would like to add to the actual Hamster Central website. But these new features would require money to cover this upgrade.
I would also need a person to program these features in. Someone that knows allot about HTML CSS PHP and MYSQL. Well my husband Tom went to college for these vary things and graduated with a bachelor’s degree and with honors in Computer Information Systems. He told me that if I can get the money raised to upgrade my hosting service he will add in all the new features I have been contemplating on.
So yes, it comes down to donations! But before I go on I want to tell you what other new features I hope to add to the HC site that some of you may benefit from or else just enjoy having!
Proper Classified Area
Here people could post adoptions, selling, wanted, and so on for anything that is hamster related. With the use of pictures.
Information and Article Ratings
This would allow people browsing HC a chance to leave me feedback on what they thought of the information. They would probably rate from 1 to 10 and each section would be given a rating probably shown in some kind of neat graphic.
Hamster Central's own forum!
I know we already have one, but the website address says www.candacebell.com/forum Well this is because this forum is hosted through my personal fantasy art site. If we upgrade we will have www.hamstercentral.com/forum which makes more sense

To update people that want to be advised when new things are added to the website and so on. You could have yourself easily unsubscribe if you wanted.
Personal Spaces For Registered Users!
And finally, something I’m sure everyone will be psyched about!
In this I plan to have it so that anyone that registers to have this option will be given their own personal page or “space” where they can basically have a hamster profile. That can feature their hamsters complete with a bio and picture and whatever creative thing my mind can come up with. The details aren’t all laid out yet but I’m sure that this will be great!
So all of you who want to share things about your hamster(s) and pictures and brag about your little furry friend, can have a personal area to do this!
Fun things to come of this could be featuring certain members each week, and so on.
There are so many options available if only we can purchase a new hosting package. Also did I mention it will all be free! Nobody will have to pay to use the personal space for registered users; all that would be required is a user name and password. Everyhting esle mentioned would also be free!
The goal..
Save up $95.40 US in donations, this covers the hosting per year. Once I have this we can get started on the update. I want everyone to keep in mind however, that my husband will get this all done over a period of time. It will not be instant. He also works and has other interests he would like to do. But he will get it done bit by bit whenever he can.
But don’t fear! He does have experience in this, as he went to college for it and has kept his mind fresh by working on my fantasy art website and also for the college he works in now!
All the donations made will be to Hamster Central ONLY! I hope you are as excited as I am. I could pay for it from my own pocket, but it is a lot of money and both my husband and I would feel better knowing people are willing to help out and that this is worth doing!
So far we have raised 38.85 US dollars for the Hamster Central Website Update fund!
