Potty training and taming

So my hamster had been using one corner of the cage to pee in, but then a couple nights ago, I scooped out the soiled bedding.  Now she uses the opposite corner, where I *think* she had been previously storing food.  I was always under the impression that hamsters only use one corner to do their business, so is it normal for her to change her mind?  Not to mention, she still seems to be eating and dropping food in that area, which seems unsanitary to me...so I worry.  :P  Along the same lines, I saw
on the PetSmart website and wondered if anyone had tried training their hamster to use it.  Seems like a lot to ask of a hamster to go INSIDE the potty.  What about something like
?  Do they actually use the potty litter to pee on?  Or do they just end up thinking it's bedding?

Regarding taming my ferocious ham, lol, I read a lot of the old FAQs and the advice that people gave me in my last entry and many of you suggest having me stick my hand into the cage, but she attacks anything that even comes close!  (My boyfriend poked his finger in between the bars earlier today and she came up to sniff it, then bit him.  Repeat 3x.)  I've been putting my hand on the outside of the cage so she can sniff me, but I can just see that gleam in her eyes that makes me think she wants to take a big ol' bite of my fingers, especially when she sticks her nose waaaaay out to meet my hand.  Am I just supposed to suck it up and let her bite me 'til she gets bored???
