So last night, as I was studying for my physics exam (which I did amazingly well on, btw), the TV was on Discovery Channel and they were showing "Dirty Jobs".
The dirty job for that day was to clean up and sort through HAGFISH. THE BEST ANIMALS EVER. They make slime layers if you touch them as a protection against predators. And they make CURTAINS of the stuff and it keeps on coming. They had huge buckets of hagfish that they just hauled in and they kinda sat there making slime, it was awesome.
Hagfish are the sister group to vertebrates! They are an outgroup because they are craniates but don't have a backbone. They also don't have true teeth or jaws! HURRAY! At least my excruciating Vertebrate Anatomy course is actually teaching me something USEFUL.
I am going to have a hagfish farm when I win the lottery. My roommate is going to be my ranch hand and my official title is the "House Hagfish" instead of "House Husband" now.
