Disclaimer: I don't own JE
Dedication: A friend who just came back to CA recently and I'll be meeting up later, hopefully. I missed her so much
Chinen stood up, glaring at him with hostility and a slight wariness. "What do you want?"
"I just needed to pick something up. Besides, it's my room. I can come and go as I please." Ryutaro looked at him for a long time, enough to start making him uncomfortable.
"W-what?" Chinen looked away, unable to hold his gaze anymore.
"Have you eaten yet? Are you hungry?" Almost as though the other boy had read his mind.
Chinen's stomach answered for him and that made Ryutaro grin. He went over and pried the towel out of Chinen's hands. His skin tingled pleasantly at the contact and he blushed, trying not to think on it.
As he got closer, Chinen noticed, almost without meaning to, that Ryutaro's tie had loosened even more from its knot earlier. Furious with himself for noticing something so trivial, he turned his head away, his red shade darkening. But the nagging thought of who undid the tie kept haunting him.
"Come on, I'll take you to the kitchen." Dropping the towel on his desk, Ryutaro pulled Chinen up and pushed him out of his room. "We're not allowed to eat in our rooms." Stepping in front of him, Ryutaro took Chinen's hand and led him down the stairs to where the main club was located. The older boy found himself enjoying the way Ryutaro's hand grasped his; he was holding it firmly but not too hard.
Unlike that morning when Chinen had first come in, the room was dimly lit and full of people and music now. When sun went down, the host club had come to life. Luckily, the kitchen was located in the back where the stairs were, so Chinen didn't have to go through all the hosts and their clients like he did the night before.
Inside the kitchen were a few workers bustling about, mainly washing piles upon piles of dishes and taking champagne bottles out to the front. Chinen kept an eye out for his sister (he got a text from her while cleaning Ryutaro's room, saying she had come in to work) but didn't see her.
Ryutaro took him further back to where a table and refrigerator was located. The other boy went straight for the latter and started to rummage through the inside while Chinen stood uncertainly by the table.
"Where's my sister?" he asked as Ryutaro pulled out a plate of something and placed it in a nearby microwave.
"Saya-san?" Sixty seconds later, it went ring and Ryutaro pulled it. "I have no idea, she should be here." The smell of fried shrimp filled the air and Chinen had to swallow hard so he wouldn't start drooling. "Maybe Yabu-kun sent her somewhere else."
Ryutaro placed it in front of him and he grabbed a shrimp tail without thinking, only to drop it instantaneously. "Ow, hot, hot!"
"No, duh." He felt a light cuff on his head. Ryutaro set down a bowl of rice as well and sat down next to him. "Here, use chopsticks." The other boy had brought a pair and used them to pick up the shrimp. "Say 'ah', Chinen."
"Wha?" Ryutaro was holding the food up to his mouth but he was too surprised to eat it.
"Just say 'ah', Chinen." Normally, he wouldn't agree to this, but at the moment, Chinen was actually getting dizzy from hunger, and so he unwillingly allowed Ryutaro to feed him. "Like it?"
Chinen nodded, happily munching the fried shrimp. He was feeling much more cheerful now that he had some food. "Aren't you busy?"
Ryutaro shrugged as he picked up some rice with the chopstick. "I rather do this. You're more interesting than the people out there."
"Eh?" Taking his chance, Ryutaro shoved a mouthful of rice at Chinen, who nearly choked on it. He coughed as something got stuck in his throat. Concerned, Ryutaro patted his back (it doesn't really help) until he finally stopped and handed him a glass of water. "T-thanks." Chinen gulped it down slowly but gratefully.
Before Chinen had a question to ask Ryutaro what he meant by calling him 'interesting', a loud outburst made the two of them turn their heads. It was just Keito wandering in, the noise from the club outside flowing in through the opened door.
"Oh hi there." Keito greeted them calmly.
"Keito, what are you doing here?" Ryutaro sounded surprised. "It's your day off, isn't it?"
"Yeah, but a friend wanted to come here, and then I got a bit hungry." As he spoke, Keito started to look in the fridge and pulled out a couple pre-made sandwiches.
"Keito, have you seen Saya-san?" Ryutaro asked casually as he stuffed more rice in Chinen's mouth.
"Yuuri-chan's sister?" Keito looked at the now-choking-on-a-pieces-of-rice-Chinen.
"Y-you can just call me 'Chinen,' Keito-san," Chinen told him once the rice dislodged itself. His skin crawled every time he heard someone use his given name. He wasn't used to anyone calling him 'Yuuri' unless they (Saya) was furious with him. "What are you trying to do, kill me?!" he snapped at Ryutaro.
"Then you can just call me 'Keito.'" Keito returned with a smile as Ryutaro retorted, "I'm only feeding you! You're choking yourself!"
"Chinen, if Ryutaro's harassing you too much, my room's right next to his, so feel free to let me know. He's a good kid, really, but sometimes his brattiness gets a bit out of hand. You'll get used to it soon though. We all did," Keito assured him with a pat on the head.
Ryutaro scowled as Chinen nodded. He was glad there was at least one person who seemed normal and nice here but he doubt he could ever get used to Ryutaro. The younger boy just bothered Chinen to no end with his antics.
"Shut up, Keito," Ryutaro grumbled. "Now answer my question."
"Oh right, Saya-san." Ryutaro's rudeness seemed to have no effect on Keito. "I saw her going into the girl's restroom on my way in. I think Yabu-kun told her to clean the toilets or something."
"Okay, thanks. You can go away now." Ryutaro dismissed him with a wave of his hand.
Chuckling, Keito ambled off, but not before throwing one last thing over his shoulders. "By the way, Yabu-kun told me to tell you to 'get your butt out there' if I happened to see you." With another friendly wave, he disappeared out the door.
"Geez, I'm only taking a bit of a break," Ryutaro grumbled again, taking Chinen's hand without warning and shoving the chopsticks into them. Startled, Chinen went numb, aware only of the way the other boy's fingers were semi-wrapped around the back of his palm before the extra warmth dissipated. "Put the dishes in the sink when you're done and then go back to my room to finish your cleaning duty."
"I don't need you to tell me that," was Chinen's irritated reply. He hated the way the other boy was always looking down on him.
"Good boy." Ryutaro patted the top of his head as he went out. Considering it was Ryutaro, Chinen expected him purposely pat him too hard or possibly give him a noogie. But the other boy didn't do either of those. It was just normal pat, yet why did it make him feel so...giddy? Blushingly, Chinen rubbed the back of his hand and recalled the way Ryutaro had held him earlier. Both actions had been so full of warmth and something else as well, something he didn't want to acknowledge.
Chinen shook his head to dispel his fuddled thoughts. Pats were pats. It didn't matter who gave them. Still, his spirits fell slightly as he watched Ryutaro leave. He didn't like to eat alone.
A/N: Not a very exciting chapter, but Chinen needs a little break after what happened last chapter. More pairings will make an appearance next chapter.
