TM Challenge: Siblings
"...Siblings? I guess it's no surprise that I don't have any. If I did, well, surely you'd all know about them? They'd be almost as awesome as me, just by virtue of being related to me. (I'd still be the most awesome, of course. Due to being me.)"
He pauses. Runs a hand through his hair, looking... oddly thoughtful.
"I'm an only child. Born and raised alone... that's how it often is with heroes. 'I walk a lonely road,' a great man once said... and it's true. And to begin with, I did. I always knew I was different, but having no sibling to share my thoughts with... I walked my lonely road until the time came for me to burst once and for all into my brand new day. It is a necessary step of preparation. Tradition, almost."
"And then, my par... Things changed. And in those changing times, I found brotherhood and sisterhood with the people of this wonderful town. And just like a dashing big brother, I have spent my time protecting each of my little brothers and sisters from the bullies of this world."
Good metaphor, he thinks, sitting back and idly toying with something on the tabletop just out of shot.
"Sometimes I have wondered what it would have been like to have a sibling. Maybe a little brother. I think I might have liked that. He could have been my sidekick! And from what I've read on the internet, people seem increasingly fond of the idea of brothers working together... so no doubt we would have gone down well! (I would still be the most awesome. This is inevitable.)"
Just as he's about to speak again, a cellphone rings - which is clearly what he's been playing with on the tabletop. He gives the camera a forgive-me-I'm-important smile, and picks up the phone.
"Hello... Why, hello Mr Mayor... Yes... Yes... Oh, I'd be honoured... Mhm... For the city, of course. It would be my pleasure... Yes. You too, Mr Mayor."
The short call over, he puts the phone down and returns his attention to the camera.
"But I suppose that call from my good friend the Mayor really proves what I was saying earlier - it is the people of this city who are my siblings. And I will defend all of them. Now isn't that what we all want in a big brother?"
